Last week, Stacey came up with five reasons to consider prepaid mobile phone calling plans, especially in these tough economic times. Some wondered why we wrote about that topic, and to them we say: look at the recent trends. There is growing body of evidence that the demand for wireless services is dipping, especially in the growth of post-paid subscriptions, a trend that was first evidenced in the 3Q 2008 and has continued since then. Service Providers New Pre-Paid Adds MetroPCS 249,000 Leap Wireless 155,000 T-Mobile 377,000 Tracfone 341,000 Verizon Wireless 90,000 On the flip side, there is a growing...

Ford has announced third quarter losses of $129 million after pre-tax losses of a total of $2.7 billion. These results are an improvement from the company's $380 million loss in the third quarter of last year. So no layoffs, right? Not exactly. Unfortunately these figures will likely lead to a forecasted 10% cut in salaried workforce along with no executive bonuses or merit pay. With about...
PropertyShark analyzed Harlem condo sales data, finding a 76% drop in sales between third quarter 2008 and 3Q 2007. Oddly enough, prices increased 3% in 3Q 2008 vs. 3Q 2007. The Observer remarks upon "oversaturation in the Harlem condo market," and PropertyShark CEO Bill Staniford says, "This almost looks like a complete crash; prices are going to have to drop." However, there could be a bright side: The "possibility of substantial Harlem and East Harlem price chops has potential apartment buyers giddy at the reintroduction of a nearly extinct New York species: the newer $300,000 (and under) Manhattan condo."
