Caroline Kennedy: Clinton Senate Replacement? — ABC News reports that Hillary Clinton's Senate seat might be filled by none other than Caroline Kennedy: Another Senator Kennedy? The crazy speculation about Hillary Clinton's Senate seat may not be so crazy after all. A Democrat who would know tells ABC News that New York governor David Paterson has talked to Caroline Kennedy about taking the seat, which was once held by her uncle, Robert F. Kennedy. It's not exactly shocking that Paterson would reach out to one of the most highly respected public figures in New York, but this is: Sources say Kennedy is considering it, and has...

It Gets WorseOne wonders how out of it NRO can get, and then one reads this from Victor Davis Hanson:FISA and wire-intercepts of terrorist communications in the pre-Obama president months were once derided as more of Ashcroft-Bush stomping on the Constitution — except that now ABC News reports that, in fact, US intelligence agencies supplied India with general knowledge of the rough time period, place, and perhaps even method of terrorist attack. Are we to believe that such newfound capability to warn a country 7000 miles away about terrorist infiltration on its borders would be of no utility here at home?Does Hanson...

Megafood Challenges, Good for a Free Meal or a Trip to the HospitalFrom Serious Eats Photograph by Scott Mayerowitz ABC News reporter Scott Mayerowitz takes a look at, and tries, some of the megafood challenges across the country from restaurants that offer gargantuan dishes on the house—if you can finish them within the allotted time. There's the 50-pound burger challenge at the Clinton State Diner in New Jersey, where the $159.95 burger is free if five people can finish it in under three hours. Less wallet damaging is the pancake challenge at Rick Jones' cafe in Seiad Valley, California, where failure to finish five gigantic inch-thick pancakes in less than two hours...

Your Abbreviated Pundit Round-upWednesday is a good day to abbreviate. NY Times: If he is confirmed by the Senate as attorney general, Eric Holder, President-elect Barack Obama’s choice for the job, will inherit a Justice Department that has been mired in scandal and that has seriously lost its way in critical areas. Under President Bush, the department has been used to defend the indefensible, like indefinite detention and torture of prisoners, and to undermine rather than protect Americans’ cherished rights. Mr. Holder could be an exemplary choice to face this daunting agenda, but he must answer serious questions before the Senate votes on...

It's 'More Likely Than Not' That a WMD Attack Will Occur by 2013 - from the report "The World at Risk" - Mitchell Tsai
Pakistan's nuclear weapons stockpile consists of about 85 nuclear warheads. - Mitchell Tsai
"Obama to appoint czar to stop nuclear and biological attacks" [Foon Rhee, Boston - 12/2/08] http://boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2008/12/obama_to_appoin.html Pakistan, Graham said, is the most likely source of terrorists armed with nuclear or biological weapons. "Pakistan is the intersection of the perfect storm," he said on CNN. "Terrorists occupy its northwest territories. It has had a history of proliferating nuclear materials. It is the sixth or seventh largest nuclear state in the world. It has an unstable government. - Mitchell Tsai
Sigh. You know what? I absolutely REFUSE to live in fear. Just not gonna do it. - Heather Mina
Heather: My dad does research on anti-viral drugs at Kent State University. Even on a natural level, a repeat of 1918 flu influenza which could kill 25-40% of people could be bad. Perhaps people individually (and society as a whole) can devise safer behaviors after an attack, and detection methods before attacks (e.g. Google tracking searches of "flu" http://friendfeed.com/e/0cc045ea-597f-420b-81a4-b0c8050e7df8 to detect flu outbreaks) - Mitchell Tsai
True, Mitchell. And I recognize the distinction between safety and caution, and living in fear. The whole "stock up on plastic sheeting and duct tape" thing a few years ago was pure fear, and purely asinine. Awareness is important, yes, but *fear* among an entire population is bad. In fact, it's poisonous. - Heather Mina
It's true!!! Haven't you seen 24?!?!? Really if you want to be worried about something, worry about crossing the street. It's the mundane things that will get you, not movie plot threats. - Jeremy Brooks
When I was a kid (age 5-8) until sometime before/during/after college (forget exactly when my fear disappeared), I lived 1/2 expecting the world to be in nuclear war the next day. Not a great way to be. 1963 Bay of Pigs brought the world sooo close to nuclear war... - Mitchell Tsai
Jeremy: So true. Many environmental groups talk about X people dying from Y to inflame people. Reality = ~350,000 people die every day, ~500,000 children born every day (20,000/hr, 300/min, 5/sec). It's the cycle of life. - Mitchell Tsai
Oh, I know. I remember being a teenager in the 80s, and going to bed every night wondering whether this was going to be the night I didn't wake up from. Living near Norfolk, VA, home of the world's largest naval installation, I knew we'd be Ground Zero for a Soviet nuke. Instant vaporization ftw? Sigh. - Heather Mina
As I got older, I realized there's always a chance of dying. My cousin Susan was sitting in a car parked at an intersection, when an out-of-control car leaped into the air from the other side of the road and flew into her car (epileptic seizure or something). Something can happen when I'm walking on a sidewalk & a car can plow right into me. Can't take all the risk out of life...no matter how much money/power/paranoia you have. Might as well enjoy life! - Mitchell Tsai
the energy created in the human aura by emotional agitation is food for subtle beings who are not our friends .. they implant a lot of the dramas into the human plane in order to ensure their food supply ... this is from barbara marcineak, bringers of the dawn, or something like that ... makes more sense than a lot of other things ... - gregory lent

NYC Holiday Office Parties Down 65%Did you hear? The office party's been cut from the budget, according to a poll by FreshDirect & BizBash. More than 65% of New York businesses are eliminating or scaling back on holiday parties this year, according to the survey of more than 200 event professionals in New York City. Of course, FreshDirect also has a solution to the problem: use their "At The Office" service to cut down on costs and party...

"I Was Unprepared For War"So says a candid President Bush, in an interview set to air today with Charlie Gibson of ABC News. GIBSON: What were you most unprepared for? BUSH: Well, I think I was unprepared for war. In other words, I didn't campaign and say, "Please vote for me, I'll be able to handle an attack." In other words, I didn't anticipate war. Presidents -- one of the things about the modern presidency is that the unexpected will happen. GIBSON: You said you were not going to be in the business of nation-building. And so much of what you had to do...

Bush: Obama's High Profile Is No 'Intrusion'By Dan Eggen President Bush says Barack Obama is not overstepping any boundaries by assuming a high profile before taking office, and the current president vowed to continue briefing his successor about major economic and national-security developments over the next seven weeks. "I don't feel any intrusion whatsoever, because he knows what I know," Bush said in an interview with ABC News conducted late last week at Camp David. Now That’s a Chair!Photo: Alexander Natruskin / REUTERS Times may be tough for regular Joes like you and me, but the Russian fat cats are partyin’ like it’s 1999 in Moscow’s annual Millionaire Fair. The Russian capital is home to 60,000 millionaires and 30 billionaires (in fact, it has more rich people than any other cities on Earth) - and conspicuous consumption seems to be their mantra. REUTERS has an interesting photo gallery of this year’s Millionaire Fair (which is filled with beautiful young women looking bored!). This one above is a chair fit for fat cats or super villains, designed by Raw...

"We believe Caylee Marie is alive, the authorities have given up (not our opinion, a fact and statement to media from their offices) looking for a live Caylee, but what harm can it do to prove these tips were not Caylee? Obama: I'll Give You My Blackberry When You Take It From My Cold Dead HandsBarack Obama has a Blackberry problem. He's hooked on using the phone, but he's about to lose it when he becomes president. In an interview airing tonight on ABC, Barbara Walters asked the president-elect about how he's going to handle losing his favorite gadget. Obama seems to be working on a run around so he can keep the phone. ABC News: WALTERS: How are you going to get along without your Blackberry? OBAMA: (Laughs). This is a problem. I, you know, one of the things that I'm going to have to work through is how to break through the isolation...

Question of the Day: How Long are You Willing to Wait in Line For Black Friday Deals? [Question Of The Day]Based on an earlier poll, we already know that plenty of you will be heading out to shop on Black Friday. Major polls listed in our Black Friday survival guide indicate that the number of people heading out overall could be higher than in previous years. That having been said, I'm curious to know about what people are willing to endure to get the deal they really want.
