Tiny projectors are pretty much a dime a dozen these days, so we'll be honest, the Acer K10 kind of looks like more of the same. Sure, it's small -- just 1.2 pounds -- but that's not nearly as small as some (and certainly not small enough to be impressive). It's an SVGA projector with an 800 x 600 resolution, and it's got an LED backlight with about 20,000 estimated life hours, delivering 100 ANSI lumens with a contrast ratio of 1000:1. The K10 also boasts both S-video and VGA connections. It's a little hard to say, but this...
In the battle between new 16-inch multimedia notebooks, it's safe to say that Laptop Mag prefers Acer's rig over Samsung's R610. The Aspire 6930 (or 6930G-6723, if we're talking specifics), was said to have an eye-catching design, great Blu-ray playback and solid all-around performance suitable for a media-minded lappie. Not to mention the sub-$1,000 sticker -- that helped, too. In actuality, the only real knock was the fact that a 1080p display wasn't included at the $999 price point, but we all know that's just being greedy. These critics didn't hesitate to dish out a 4 out of 5 star...
With all the attention netbooks and nettops have been getting lately, it would appear that small form factor (SFF) and all-in-one PCs are getting lost in the shuffle. That won't be the case for long, as according to DigiTimes' un-named sources at PC vendors, Intel is gearing up to launch three new 65W low-power quad-core CPUs specifically for these two market segments.Core 2 Quad Q8200s (2.33GHz, 4MB L2 cache) - $245Core 2 Quad Q9400s (2.66GHz, 6MB L2 cache) - $320Core 2 Quad Q9550s (2.83GHz, 12MB L2 cache) - $369From a specification standpoint, the new chips will be identical to existing...
Behold, the MSI Wind Neton. It’s a nettop, a new category of computer that can best be described as an all-in-one desktop version of a netbook. Think mini iMac. This here Neton, which was just shown off in China, comes in three sizes: 22 inches, 18.5 inches and 15.6 inches. (Those are monitor sizes, obviously.) All three models, named the M22, M19 and M16, respectively, use the Intel Atom processor, just like every other netbook and nettop. MSI will release the M19 in January with prices starting at $500. The top-of-the-line M22 will see a March release for $800....
We are at Costco this morning on our weekly “checking account emptying” trip and I came across the new HP Mini 1000 Netbook for $499. They just got it in last night. The keyboard felt really good, and the webcam worked well with Movie Maker. The Acer Aspire One is right across from it for $349. The keyboard on the Acer felt very cramped. Acer was advertising the Aspire One as a Mobile Internet Device. That’s funny, I didn’t know Acer made MIDs….. The clerk said the Acer was selling like wildfire and expects the HP to do the...
Filed under: Laptops The Aspire One is selling really well, in spite of the fact that it kind of gets lost in the overwhelming wilderness of more exciting (cooler, if you will) netbooks, so it's not necessarily surprising to see it appearing in new and zany colors... like black. Sure, it's exactly the same as every other Aspire One 110 we've ever seen, but this one is... all black. In fact, it's like, how much more black could this be? And the answer is none. None more black. The special "Black Edition" has touched down in Germany for €400 (or...
Walt Mossberg takes on Netbooks in a review in the Wall Street Journal and essentially says what we’ve known all along. For some users (browsing, email, etc….) they work well and for power use look elsewhere. He takes a look at a decent cross section featuring four models: The Acer Aspire One, The Dell Mini 9, the Asus Eee PC 1000H, and the MSI Wind and sees pluses and minuses with each of them. (Keyboards, trackpads, and battery life are key elements for him.) It is a pretty thorough review of each of these Netbooks, and from what I’m seeing...
