Link: http://niemann.blogs.nytimes.com/2008... We can't help with the addiction but you will still probably love this visual essay in the NYT. Here is how it starts: “I like coffee so much that I have tea for breakfast: The first cup of the day in particular is so good that I’m afraid I won’t be able to properly appreciate it when I am half-asleep. Therefore, I celebrate it two hours later when I am fully conscious.” Contribute: Add an image, link, video or comment »...
RSS Feeds have become an essential way to keep up-to-date with many different online sources of information – in fact without it, tracking blog updates would be next to impossible. To those of you with a feed addiction, it may come as some surprise to learn that RSS adoption is still surprisingly low across web users– even those who spend a lot of time on the internet. Most people are unaware of the technology or if they are – even less interested. A lot of people simply prefer email subscriptions and depending on the target audience of a blog this...
If you have known me for any amount of time you probably know I have a little addiciton to FriendFeed and use it pretty much anytime I am not sleeping. Its a great service and I have met some pretty kool people. Now one thing I find myself doing more and more on a daily basis is using my mobile device when I am away from my machines or in a setting where sitting with a laptop may not be the best and of course if I am away from home I am not using my desktop. That is...
I am always on the lookout for little mobile gizmos/gadgets that make my life either more productive or more enjoyable. Here are three recent purchases that I am thankful for. Any of them make great stocking stuffers for your favorite geek. My MacBook Air constantly runs hot. Even when all I am doing is running a browser for awhile, the fan kicks in - and it's loud. Targus makes a neat fold up cooling pad called Targus HeatDefense. What I like about it is that it doesn't consume any power, it's easy to fold up and it works flawlessly. Within...
Click the image above to view the full photogallery. As if it weren't bad enough that your home was foreclosed, now your picture is all over the interweb as the sad-looking victim of mismanaged government, irresponsible banking, and baby-toy addiction. Sure, we're maybe being a bit presumptuous here, but it makes for a good story -- and pictures don't lie. The four bedroom home at 32 Sadawa St. (uh, where?), was rebuilt five years ago "according to owner." The same owner getting foreclosed on? We'd be dubious. Asking: $529,000. · 32 Sadowa St. [MLS]...
This may make it easier for Barack Obama to kick his well-publicized BlackBerry addiction: News that Verizon employees have been snooping through his phone records. Verizon (VZ) said Thursday night that “a number of Verizon Wireless employees have, without authorization, accessed and viewed President-Elect Barack Obama’s personal cell phone account.” Verizon says the phone is a “simple flip-phone”, and not a Berry, and that it has been inactive for several months. But the startling public admission should be enough to convince Obama, if he needed any more prompting, that he’s going to have to give up his prized gadget. It...
An Italian boy has been diagnosed with “PlayStation addiction” following a marathon gaming session. The boy, 13, was rushed to a hospital where doctors thought he had suffered a stroke or some other serious condition. Nope, just played a little too much Mega Man! It gets better. After leaving the hospital, the boy told his father to throw away the PlayStation for fear of further complications. What ever happened to self control? via Gamer...
Filed under: Software, Reviews, iPhone, App StoreI first mentioned this app at the end of September when word leaked out that GroundSpeak, the keepers of the Geocaching.com Web site, was working on an iPhone app. If you're not familiar with the hobby/sport/addiction that is geocaching, the concept is very simple -- people go out and hide caches in the great outdoors, use a GPS receiver to find the coordinates of the hide, then post the cache on the Geocaching.com Web site. Cachers go to the Web site, search for caches that are near their present location, and then use their...
Work on Plex, the Mac-enhanced port/fork of XBMC, continues, with the media player having been updated to version 0.7 two days ago. It’s not just a bugfix or anything—I wouldn’t bother mentioning it here if that were the case—as the developers have added several features that should compel you to upgrade. One word about upgrading, though: because so many internal settings have been altered with this latest release, the developers recommend that you trash your old preference file in order to prevent conflicts. Yes, that means you’ll have to re-do your Library, but it takes only a few minutes...
President-elect Barack Obama will have to give up the BlackBerry that he's had literally by his side (clipped to his belt, a surprising fashion faux pas by the normally quite fashionable candidate). Because of security concerns, the chief executive is not allowed to send emails. President George W. Bush has gone without email for eight years, and was reported to be looking forward to sending them again a few months ago. Obama does plan to bring a laptop to the Oval Office, and there's some talk of setting up a read-only email account. How would you cope with living without...
