The 2010 Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts is scheduled to take place in June 23-28, and these boots are made for walking during it, apparently.
According to a Press Release, these are the Orange Power Wellies, and they were created in collaboration with renewable energy experts GotWind for “a unique power generating sole” that converts heat from the feet into electricity.
Say what now? You mean that all that sweaty feet can be used to power something like a mobile device? Apparently so. In fact, about 12 hours of stomping around can give enough of a charge a mobile phone for about an hour. You want more power, then you had better get your feet moving. Seriously, the hotter your feet get, the more power you can make.
This apparently uses the “Seebeck” effect with thermoelectric modules constructed of P-type and n-type semiconductor materials to make a thermocouple. “When the heat from the foot is applied on the top side of the ceramic wafer and cold is applied on the opposite side, from the cold of the ground, electricity is generated.”
It doesn’t look like these will be available to buy, but it looks like the Orange Chill n Charge area will be at the Glastonbury festival. I guess you can check it out there.

I’ve been using the Sony ICF-CL75iP as my bed side clock since I reviewed back in November. While the Sony does a ton, arguably more than any alarm clock on the market, it’s not without its faults. Most prevalent, it only has one dock and the screen is so bright it sometimes keeps me up.
While on a recent shopping trip with my wife at a “home” store I stumbled across the iHome iP88 and on impulse snatched it up.
Here’s how iHome describes the unit:
The iP88 is an innovative clock radio for iPhone & iPod that features two docks allowing you to charge both your iPhone and iPod simultaneously. The iP88 has several unique features, including a remote control, digital AM/FM presets, EQ controls, and even 3D sound for an enhanced audio experience. The iP88 also allows you to wake to your custom iPod playlist at different times on different days with our 7-5-2 feature, programmable snooze settings, and triple alarm. You’ll also enjoy phenomenal sound around the clock with our Reson8 stereo speaker chambers.
The iP88 is pretty standard as far as clock radios go but what makes it unique is the fact that it contains two iPod docks. Currently, at night, I have my iPod Touch inside the Sony and my iPhone inserted in the Apple iPhone Dock. While this works it isn’t always convenient. Often times I don’t take my iPod Touch with me during the day and therefore it doesn’t get updated with any new podcasts I’m subscribed too. My iPhone does however, but since that’s not what’s plugged into the clock I don’t get to listen to it.

The iP88 along comes with a power adapter, AM antenna, instruction manual, remote control and two sets of dock adapters.

Each side of the iP88 can accommodate a different iPod. You’ll need to fit the dock adapters inside each cradle based upon the devices you plan to place into them.

In my case I chose to place my iPod Touch on the right side and my iPhone on the left.

In addition to charging both devices while inserted the iP88 has a bunch of different alarm functions. You can set up to 3 alarms and have them wake you to wake to your iPhone, iPod, a playlist, the AM/FM Radio or a buzzer. The unit also features Bass, treble, 3D sound and balance controls as well as backlit buttons and 8 radio presets.

The iP88 has a sync button too which allows you to sync the clock on your iPod to the clock on the iP88.
The front of the iP88 has a pleasant bluish backlight that’s easy on the eyes.

The alarms are easy to set and the sound it puts out is decent enough for a bed side unit. Perhaps my only complaint is the iP88 is a little on the bulky side but I’ve replaced both my Sony and the iPhone dock with it so size wise it’s all a wash.

The iHome iP88 is available in a variety of retail stores as well directly from the iHome web site.

[Direct Link]Throw out an alarming alarm clock. If the ring is loud and strident, you're waking up to instant stress. You shouldn't be bullied out of bed, just reminded that it's time to start your day.

[Direct Link]Probably one of the most ignored sectors of the tech industry, helmets are one of those things that probably don’t necessarily need to change, but we’re fans of anything that gets better by the use of technology. Though, we may have to wave an exception flag in this case, due to the smelly nature of this story.

If you’re a bike rider, or need the use of a helmet at all, then you know that over time, if you’ve taken a few falls here and there, you’re helmet can start to actually weaken. And therefore it becomes less safe to wear, and actually use. The worst part is, though, that not many people will notice their helmets are cracked before they start using the broken product, and therefore increasing their chances of serious injury.
“Cyclists often replace their helmets unnecessarily after dropping them on the ground, because they cannot tell whether they are damaged or not,” Dr. Christof Koplin, a research scientist at the IWM, said. “The capsules eliminate this problem. If cracks form, smelly substances are released.”
Thanks to some scientists over in Germany, they’ve solved the problem. When their helmet breaks, or cracks, microcapsules inside the helmet will also break. And when they do, a very strong odor of stinky cheese will start to waft from the helmet. That will tell you, and probably everyone around you, that you’ve got a defective helmet on your hands. A great idea for sure.

Love the game of golf? Well, for folks who are aboslutely enamoured with this sport will definitely have a great love of their golf bag as well (or bags for the real fanatic). To make sure that nobody tampers with your golf bag whenever you are not around, how about investing $49.95 in the Golf Bag Alarm System? This unique device comprises of a motion sensing radio transmitter that doubles up as a golf ball, alongside a key fob radio receiver. The ball will naturally reside in your golf bag while you carry around the key fob. Should the ball detect substantial movement, it will emit a shrill alarm while sending a signal to the receiver which beeps and vibrates. Not only that, even if someone silently drags the bag away with minimal motion, should it be separated by more than 30 yards from the key fob, the alarm will also sound.

Do you know a graduate who is going off to college? It would be fun to give them a graduation gift that they would use every day. What about one that is as unique as they are? Well the LEGO alarm clock is the perfect fit....

Golfing is tricky business, you never know when someone is going to try to make off with your balls. To prevent those pesky golf ball thieves or anyone that might try to steal your whole golf bag you can pick up one of these handy little Golf Bag Alarm Systems. No one will ever suspect the funny looking golf ball can sound an alarm loud enough to put some serious strain on your ears.
This alarm system consists of two parts, a golf ball and a key fob. You leave the golf ball inside of your bag and then when the motion sensing ball notices some serious movement, the alarm will sound. Not only will an alarm go off on the ball, but your key fob will start to vibrate and beep. It’ll also not be very happy if you happen to get the key fob over 30 yards away from the ball. Which that will help you realize when someone is driving off with your bag. You can pick up the set for $49.95.

Motorola is set to rival HTC in the ability to crank out Android phones at a breath-taking pace. Motorola has introduced a new phone called Flipout that features a pivoting pop-out keyboard and a compact touchscreen display.
The Flipout will have a 2.8 inch screen, 3 megapixel camera, video recording capability, Wi-Fi and GPS. It will run the Android 2.1 version of the operating system.
The phone will also have the Motoblur Android skin that we have already seen on other Motorola devices such as the Cliq and Backflip. Motoblur aggregates e-mails, messages and status updates from different social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Myspace to present it as a stream of data on a single screen.
With its square form and social networking features, the Flipout seems like a good alternative to Microsoft’s recently launched Kin Two phone. But it is not clear if the device will make it to the U.S. Motorola already has Backflip, a device with a nifty mode that allows its to be placed on the desk like an alarm clock and the Cliq, the first of its phones featuring the Motoblur skin.
Sure, its about giving consumers choice but with the Cliq, Backflip, Devour and Droid already out, is there such a thing as too many phones from a company? Especially when the features start to blur and minor tweaks in hardware design are all that sets one device apart from the other.
The Flipout will launch in the next few weeks in “certain regions around the world,” says Motorola. The company won’t disclose pricing either but that’s likely to depend on the deals it can ink with the wireless service providers.
