When In Dubai, Dress Like The Dubaians DoMeanwhile, in the United Arab Emirates... Celebrities from across the globe gathered in Dubai last night for the grand opening of Atlantis, The Palm Resort Hotel and Casino. The roster included a veritable cornucopia of random fame, including our number one person in life Dame Shirley Bassey, Michael Jordan, Fergie (the Duchess), Charlize Theron, Lindsay Lohan, Mischa Barton, and Mr. No Party Is Complete Without Him: Chris Tucker. But we really have to hand it to Mary-Kate Olsen, who really knew how to dress for the occasion. On the left, His Excellency Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, and on the right,...

The Danish Girl MOVIE BUZZ: Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron will play a married couple named Einar and Greta Wegener. Einar is considered to be the world's first transsexual. Remember when Nicole Kidman won an Oscar for wearing a fake nose and Charlize Theron won an Oscar for playing someone frumpy? Those two have certainly got their Oscar formulas down. The Top Selling Digital Song Is...(sadly) by JourneyDon't Stop Believin', the Journey power ballad, has become the first catalog track ever to sell more than 2 million downloads according to SoundScan. First made available through the iTunes on April 28, 2003, "Don't Stop Believin'" has become the top-selling catalog track in iTunes history and the sole catalog track to go double platinum. Why Don't Stop Believin' ? The song is perennial favorite with producers and directors of both movies and television. 2005 was a good year for Don't Stop Believin' when it was featured in "Monster," starring Charlize  Theron, made its way onto iTunes' Top 10 Singles...

"The Oscar-winning actress has been told she will have to pay "substantial" damages to Raymond Weil after breaking the terms of the deal by wearing a Dior timepiece during an 11-month period when she was being paid to be the "face" of the Swiss luxury goods manufacturer. Raymond Weil is now seeking $20m (£12m) in compensation." - clarke

ICYMI: Charlize Theron Exercises Her Freedom Of Speech To Make Startling Claim That The Hills Lacks SubstanceWhile sitting down with MTV Movies during the press junket to promote her new film Battle In Seattle, perhaps seized by the spirit of protest, Charlize Theron invoked her freedom of speech to boldly proclaim her distaste for MTV's pseudo-reality juggernaut The Hills, which Charlize feels lacks substance as it is "about nothing". While this stunning act of civil disobedience (on MTV's home turf nontheless!) was surely a brave one, Charlize did seem to be overly insecure about the possibility that she's simply too old - or as she says, "a nana" - to possibly understand the deeper, richer nuances...

Mark Weisbrot: Time to Take a Second Look at Our "Free Trade" Agreements — "Battle in Seattle" opens September 19-26 in movie theaters across the country, a rare combination of high drama and history-making events as they actually happened when thousands of protesters shut down the World Trade Organization in Seattle nearly nine years ago. It has an all-star cast including Oscar-winning beauty Charlize Theron, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Rodriguez, Ray Liotta, and Andre Benjamin (of Outkast hip-hop fame). Perhaps most unusual for a feature film, it gives the protestors credit for what they accomplished: they changed the debate over what has been deceptively marketed as "free trade." They were beaten and jailed, choked with...

DVD Review: Æon Flux (2005) I don’t remember much of anything from the Aeon Flux cartoon on MTV. There was a crazy skinny chick jumping around a lot and it was in the future and there was some sort of fascist regime maybe? Yeah, that’s all I’ve got. Now it’s live action! And it’s got Charlize Theron! And it’s now 1/3 as cool as the cartoon (or at least what I remember from it). Set in a future where 99% of the world’s population has been killed by a bizarre super-virus, the remaining members of mankind live in a pseudo-utopia ruled by the Goodchild...

John Farr: Where Are All The Classy, Smart Female Stars Today? (Thank God - I Found One) — A few months back, I was speaking with a New York magazine publisher, and he mentioned that his daughter, in her thirties, was now running his fashion magazine. Since we were on the subject of timeless film, he volunteered that when his daughter thinks of true class in film fashion, she does not summon up names like Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Jennifer Aniston, or even Angelina Jolie. Instead, her icons are Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn. Purely from a style perspective, this is understandable. But both Hepburn and Kelly, whatever their off-set shenanigans (and there were some), understood how...

'The Road' Photos Reveal Pennsylvania's Hopelessness USA Today has the first look at the bleak, post-apocalyptic world of John Hillcoat's The Road, starring Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron, and a child with an annoying name. Wondering how they ever found such a stark, depressing landscape in the real world (pretend you're wondering)? The answer: Pittsburgh! The film, which stars Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron and 11-year-old Kodi Smit-McPhee, also was shot in Katrina-ravaged New Orleans and on Mount St. Helens in Washington state for scenes of devastation. But most of the film was shot in and around Pittsburgh. Hillcoat found abandoned coal fields, a deserted amusement park...
