Mondongo Mondongo are a group of Argentinian artists who make some very detailed collages. They once made one out of biscuits of a girl mid-fellatio. These new works are made almost entirely from plasticine, and many of them are over a metre squared. Painstaking, much? We sent Julius Hinks down to this new show at Maddox Arts to find out more Posted by JJA100485 for Design Yout Trust, 2008. Permalink | No comments Design You Trust sponsors. Having kids is clearly impacting my assessment of applications… And there is no greater proof for this than a new product by IncrediMail called PhotoJoy, an application I would never have given a second thought were I not a father of two. PhotoJoy is a free downloadable application that uses your photos to produce neat desktop widgets, 3D photo screensavers and wallpaper collages. You can either use photos located on your computer, or ones uploaded to your Flickr account. PhotoJoy can also use your Flickr stream to keep your photos fresh. Notably missing is the ability to import photos from...

Only two and a half months after announcing Picasa 3 beta, Google has done the uncharacteristic and has committed to a full product release. Here's the clincher: Picasa 3 (download it here when Google updates the file) is the exact same desktop organizer and editor it was under the beta flag. (This is a good wagon for the Gmail team to climb aboard--Google's e-mail service has been in beta since 2004 and its latest releases have been earthshaking themes and emoticons.) Although Version 3 beta users won't see changes in this release, those switching from Version 2.7 will enjoy...

PhotoJoy: Fun with Picturesby Michelle Lentz PhotoJoy is a free application that lets you easily create all sorts of toys with your photos. You can create desktop widgets (toys), 3D photo screensavers, wallpaper collages. Their theory is that we take the photos, store them in an archive somewhere or upload them to Flickr, and then never look at them. Photojoy figures you should, well, enjoy them. Uploading your photos to PhotoJoy quick and simple, and it even works with your Flickr account. You can choose to upload photos saved on your computer or any photos from your Flickr account. In addition, PhotoJoy also...

Rita Ackermann: Under Pressure from 2006-2007Tomorrow multi-talented Hungarian-American artist Rita Ackermann celebrates the release of "Under Pressure from 2006 - 2007," a new collection of her collages and installation work. With an extensive curriculum of projects and exhibitions (if you've been to the NYC bar Max Fish, you've seen some of her work in the stained-glass windows), the book itself is a forty-page, full-color, over-sized publication of her mixed media installations incorporating magazine and newspaper cut-outs, text, drawings, painting and plexiglass, which have become part of Ackermann's uninhibited signature style. The new book is available online from Printed Matter and Amazon. Under Pressure from 2006-2007 Book...

Exclusive Interview: Ana Serrano Cartonlandia by Ana Serrano (62x48x54 inches) We're really excited to share with you the work of Ana Serrano. Ana's startlingly intricate and vibrant sculptures are nothing short of amazing. The detail and energy, plus the large scale make these piles-of-buildings cardboard sculptures endlessly fascinating. Plus, Ana is relatively young, which makes these works of art all the more impressive. Read the interview after the jump. REUBEN MILLER Please tell us a little bit about yourself! Ana Serrano I was born in Los Angeles, and have lived here ever since. I'm a recent graduate of Art Center College of Design...

Got your Christmas Photo Cards done? I really do like VistaPrint. I ordered a set of over sized postcards from them recently and received a lot of compliments on the way they looked. All I did was used the design wizard, a little imagination and then tweaked it all some. Well, VistaPrint is touting their wares so that you can tout… you this Christmas with a range of custom Christmas Photo Cards. Now you and your family can sit, attached to someone’s fridge all year long! Christmas Photo Cards aren’t as cheesy as they used to be though. We’ve all seen the ones where there’s...

Detroit has a museum, and you should visit Detroit has an Institute of Arts? Once I let that sink in, I enjoyed these new spots from Perich Advertising + Design and Head Gear Animation, directed by Julian Grey. (A second one is here.) There's been a wave of animated commercials of late (those Minnesota Lottery spots spring to mind), but these promote a museum, so don't expect to scratch and win. In fact, please don't scratch the paintings, or the classic Ford tailfins, or the Red Wings jersey collages—or whatever it is they have on display. The characters in the ads seem happy enough, briefly taking on...

Alden Loury: A Prize More Precious Than The Presidency — In case you hadn't noticed, Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has already won. I'm not talking about a debate, or even the election itself. Before a single vote has been counted, or cast for that matter, Obama has captured something that may be far more precious than even the American presidency. Obama has won the attention of America's black youth. In a nation where African-American children are subjected to countless images of themselves that are less than accurate and often far from honorable, Obama has lassoed the moon and the stars for black children and brought them back down to...

Stitch Pictures Together with Photoshop's Photomerge Tool [Photoshop] — Funny Photoshopper Donnie Hoyle demonstrates how to use the Photoshop's Photomerge tool to quickly and easily stitch several related photographs into one. In the example, Hoyle merges related screenshots of a map together, but Photomerge is probably most often used for is creating panoramas from multiple photographs. As you can see in the video, Photomerge makes creating one large image from several smaller images a piece of cake: Just plug in your pictures and let Photoshop do the legwork for you. You can also use Photomerge to create collages or pull together a quick side-by-side shot, so you're not...

Michael Swaney: Whitehorse, Yellowknife, Red Deer The other day, while on one of my regular gallery tours in Vancouver, I stopped by Atelier Gallery during the installation of their most recent show, a series of collages by Canadian-born, Barcelona-based artist Michael Swaney. I was immediately taken with one of the images leaning up against the wall waiting to be hung. The staff were kind enough to let me browse through the rest of the images, and I have to say that I was equally captivated by pretty much every other picture in the show. Michael Swaney collects "the relics of our consumerist society" and uses...

"That piece is done on a photocopy of an antique gridded game board used for playing Chutes and Ladders, which was popular in Britain but originated in India, where it had metaphysical implications. With each toss of the dice, you either climbed upward toward spiritual bliss or slid down." - Dave Lovely
