The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation & Marie Antoinette reduced to their respective color schemes: A description of the project: Curious to see if there were any stark similarities or contrasts within particular films, Pie aims to create an incredibly simple and concise baseline of comparison of films trough one particular trait: colour. This project was also the result of my first explorations into processing. The outcome is a number of triptychs comparing various films of particular trilogies, directors or genres. A program written in processing captures each frame of each movie and essentially creates a 'pie chart' of the...
Designed by Jon Burgerman this wallpaper is actually a coloring book that can be applied on any wall. This wallpaper can be filled with your own colours as you can see in the picture attached to this post. This is a really good idea that could be useful in a kid room, and not just there. OMDM. A not-for-profit exploration into the colours that shape our Christmas. Frustrated at the plethora of Christmas reds, whites and greens those pesky designers at Raw Design Studio are exploring what colours people really associate with their Christmas. Help us to identify the real Christmas colour spectrum by suggesting your own colour and its personal meaning. Abstract, funny or literal - the choice is yours. We’ll be collating and uploading the best ideas as we go along with the aim of producing a Christmas by Colour poster as well as individual v-cards. Posted by Dmitry Utkin for Design Yout Trust,...
There’s nothing quite like a nicely framed photograph. Ideally we’re talking about some classy wood and quality glass. If your image is heading to Grandma for her birthday, then that’s probably the best option. But for many of us, photographs largely live online, ready to be admired and/or criticised by the masses. For some situations, a virtual border or frame is a substantial improvement. Restraint is advised though. Just because you can doesn’t always mean you should. I’ve got two easy online methods to have yourself framed, and one for those who prefer to be offline now and then. Picnik...
If you'd like to experience the effects of drugs without actually taking any pesky drugs, here's a little experiment that might be right up your alley. These things called Ganzfeld hallucinations are available to you without any shady alleyway dealing; all you need is a pair of headphones and a ping pong ball cut in half. You simply place the ping pong ball halves over your eyes, so you only see diffuse white light, then listen to white noise through the headphones. What happens? Don't take my word for it, let's hear some customer testimonials: “a clearing in a forest...
Clayton Cubitt, (aka “Siege”) has his photographic finger stuck in many pots. His highly stylized editorial work has appeared in Surface, Rolling Stone, and The FADER, among other publications. Meanwhile, on the web, he chronicles his personal and professional life in photograph and words on his weblog The Daily Siege. His work is, more often than not, relentlessly sensual, saturated in deep colours, infused with an explicitness that lays its subject as bare as possible. Working within his own philosophy that inspires him to shoot with no holds barred, Cubitt’s lens lingers over muses ranging from the mid-coital form...
Filed under: Internet, Photo, Search Back in July, Jay linked to the rather awesome Multicolr service that lets you select up to 10 colours using the colour-picker on the page [selecting a colour more than once to add some bias should you wish] and the Multicolr app goes away and does its thing. 'Its thing' was, back in July, a search of the Interesting photos that make it into Flickr's Explore pages. How times have changed. Just three months later, the colour search has a 10 million strong database of Creative-Commons photos the Idée Inc. folks have indexed from Flickr using...
Technical assistance is something pretty common these days as more and more computers penetrate homes which have never played host to a Mac or Windows machines before. Personal computers are getting cheaper by the day; and many of us tend to give them as gifts to parents and grandparents in order to feel connected. Most of the time, it just ends in disaster. There’s a learning curve, albeit not a very steep one, especially for Macs. Application installation and uninstallation is a swift drag-and-drop action (most of the time); and frequently used programs can be added to the Dock for...
Meadowlands, a monograph by New York photographer, Joshua Lutz, is a collection of photos taken of the 32-square-mile area between New York City and New Jersey. It's a locale that most New Yorkers have never heard of or taken the time to visit, unless you are a Giants or Jets football fan. This project—ten years in the making—includes an introduction by Robert Sullivan, who describes life in the Meadowlands as being "more resilient than regular life." The colours and subject matter are rather subdued and quiet, but we find the images creep into out minds when we least expect...

As far as wardrobe staples go, I've covered both black and white. Now it's time to shine the fashion spotlight on the gorgeous shades of grey in between. This moody neutral colour is far from dull this season as it's showing up in many shades on tons of trendy clothing styles.Even though my love for grey may not be as extreme as this, I'm still craving a few grey items right now - specifically boots and bags - to add to my wardrobe. Grey is powerful enough to stand on its own but I think it looks even better when...
As part of this week’s data mob, some of us have been filling out dates and times on Freebase’s collection of space missions. Take a look at this timeline of results. The colours indicate the space programme responsible for the missions; for instance, all of China’s Shenzhou missions appear in dark brown, and if you scroll back to the 60s and 70s you can see the USSR and USA duking it out in the space race. There are still a bunch of space missions that don’t have dates set, so if you have a moment you can help fill them...

Weekly Assignment We finished the Costumes assignment this week. People and objects alike were dressed up for us. But there were a few photos that really stood out. amy-rose’s photo really stood out not only because of the creativity of the shot, but also because of how the post-processing really made the colours and lighting look good. Our first runner up was ktlindsay for the clown shot, which again, was a good idea with good lighting and tone to create a really well put together image. And last, but not least, EHIRyan’s almost menacing shot of his wife dressed in...
It's been quite a while since I've had a successful thrift hunt but I got lucky last weekend and scored a few great items.First up is this 50s/60s style abstract floral print dress that I bought from a garage sale last weekend for BDS$6.Note: US$1 = BDS$2 To be honest, it didn't look very impressive when I first picked it up but I liked the colours and the print so I decided I would buy it anyway. However, it soon began to grow on me on the ride home and when I finally tried it on, it was instant love!...
