Sixty start-ups gathered today to talk at the Emerging Companies Summit about how they’re using graphics technologies in their businesses. The summit was one of the many sub-conferences at the Nvision 08 Visual Computing conference in San Jose. Jeff Herbst, (left) vice president of business development at Nvidia (sponsor of Nvision and the summit), said the company had many more applicants for the 60 presentation slots than it could accommodate. Those chosen came from 16 different countries. None of those companies is creating a new graphics chip. The industry has moved on to funding start-ups that take advantage of ubiquitous...
