Danny likes the lasercutter Danny is a frequent user at the Boston Fab Lab. He has done some great work to figure out the laser cutter. In nice Fab Lab community fashion, Danny has encouraged and tutored many other lab users on how to get the most out of the tools in the lab. The Boston Fab Lab is housed in the South End Technology Center, and is supported by the Center for Bits and Atoms at the MIT Media Lab. The lab has open hours on Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons. If you would like to get your hands on some of...

Virgance snaps up 1 Block Off the Grid to give solar buyers more powerSocial activism startup Virgance is no slow mover. The San Francisco startup, which last month took the wraps off two projects aiming to change the behavior of corporations through consumer buying power and help intelligently distribute philanthropic wealth, has acquired a solar-power cooperative effort called 1 Block Off the Grid (or 1BOG) that will give homeowners in 20 cities leverage to go green. Like Virgance’s other efforts, 1BOG is all about community effort toward a common good. But there’s an added element to 1BOG: It’s also a great way to personally benefit from activism. Under the plan, consumers who want...

Be yourself “4 artists paint 1 tree” was originally a segment in a 1958 episode of “Disneyland” on TV. This short film served as a promotional spot for their upcoming film at the time: Sleeping Beauty. However, it goes much deeper than that. This philosophy can be applied to what you’re doing even if you’re not in the business of animation. If you design websites, develop software, or even run your own small business you might take away...

Bookmark of the Month - Beijing 2008 Olympic Games As the Olympic flame ended it's journey as short time ago and began it's ascent to the Great Wall, it occurred to me that while I've seen hundreds of websites touting their coverage of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, not one had mentioned an 'official' site. For me, the Olympics should be preserved as an enjoyable and symbolic, cherished event, where we can come together if just for a week or two, and celebrate our planet, it's people .... as well as our athletes. As it says on this year's official website, "One World, One Dream". The 2008...
