Nokia today unveiled its new flagship phone, the N97, which is clearly meant to compete with the iPhone and Google's Android platform. Unlike the iPhone, however, the N97 has a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard. In terms of its other hardware features, the N97 also clearly outperforms the iPhone. The N97 supports up to 48 GB of storage, including the 32 GB that are already built-in. The phone has a 5 megapixel camera and its GPS is capable of giving turn-by-turn directions. The resolution of the phone's 16:9 touchscreen is 640x360. Sponsor Location The phone will also be able to make...
…if you trust Robert Scoble, that is. He (damn him, we’re jealous) had a chance to try the device out before even the gadget blogs, and he claims (gasp!) that the Facebook experience on it is much better than on the iPhone. His main points? N97 has got 16:9 video support, better camera than the iPhone (5 megapixels), a keyboard (duh), replaceable batteries (so you can “Facebook for days”), and copy and paste support. So, he pretty much takes the obvious advantages of N97 over the iPhone and wraps it into a Facebook-related rant. However, he did actually try out...
The Microsoft Outlook SMS Add-in adds SMS sending functionality to Microsoft Outlook 2003 and Microsoft Outlook 2007. Before you begin to rejoice thinking of all the money that you can save you should notice that the add-in only works with a cell phone connected to the computer system. That is a bit of a turn off for many users but it might still appeal to some who prefer to use a real keyboard when writing SMS. The process of sending SMS in Microsoft Outlook has been designed to resemble that of sending emails in the email client. This means that...

Likewise, StumbleUpon has also upped the ante, adding new features to further court the growing social browsing market. While Yahoo Buzz may not yet be “Digg”-able, will it trip over StumbleUpon? Let’s take a look! First Impressions Quick glances at the splash pages show...
The iPhone is a superb gadget and of course, we all know that BitTorrent is a very special tool, so why not combine the two? With the uTorrent WebAPP for iPhone you can monitor, search and add torrents to your PC client wherever you are, making handling torrents on the move easier than ever before. Previously we reported on the iPhone UI for uTorrent. With an interface optimized for the iPhone, it can be used to access your BitTorrent client from your iPhone when you’re away from your computer. There was one problem though, since the iPhone doesn’t allow users...
Apple late Thursday night released a major software update for its iPhone operating system, introducing features such as remote podcast downloading and Google Street View. Remote podcast downloading enables users to download audio and video podcasts onto their iPhones with the iTunes app over a wireless connection. In the past, to get podcasts on iPhones, users had to download them onto iTunes on their computers and then connect the handset to sync the files. Apple also made major changes to the Google Maps app, which is now capable of displaying Google Street View, a mode that provides a 360-degree...
Apple just dropped the fresh new iPhone firmware 2.2 into iTunes and not a minute too soon. We have been impatiently awaiting launch for days now after reading the rumored date of November 21st. Now we welcome it with open arms. After the long 246MB download users will be booting their iPhone to new features such as Google Street View and walking directions, new Safari interface changes and fixes, the addition of emoticons, better sound quality in the visual voice mail department, and lets not forget the over-the-air podcast downloading. You probably wont be seeing us for a few days...
Several readers have e-mailed me and asked for instructions on how to take their HD YouTube videos and embed them elsewhere. As I mentioned before, this isn't an officially sanctioned feature, and as such, the embed code you get on these video pages will still yield the lower-quality, non-widescreen clip. Needless to say, this is completely unacceptable. The good news is that you only need to make a few changes to the stock embed code get the job done. Here's what to do: Step 1: Copy this code and paste it to wherever you intend to embed the video:...
I do like the call history on my iPhone, mainly because it offers so much additional information than what I used to see on my Windows Mobile phones. Festinger Software responds to that with their Historia application that I caught over on Mobility Site. It more than doubles the call listing on a single screen over the native WinMo app, bringing you 15 lines of history. You can sort the numbers, get detailed info, plus copy and paste numbers from the log if you need to. I'm not sure that $10 is worth the functionality for me personally; I'd...
Who says you can’t have it both ways? With RIM’s (RIMM) touchscreen BlackBerry Storm set to be released in the United States next Friday, CIO.com has published eight reasons to choose the Storm over Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone. The same day, it published eight reasons to pick the iPhone over the Storm. Both pieces are by Al Sacco, who probably doesn’t pay for the phones he reviews. Here’s why he prefers the Storm: Stereo Bluetooth capability Removable battery Expandable memory Video recording Works as a tethered modem Tactile feedback Copy and paste Multitasking Here’s why he prefers the iPhone It’s now...
