Tweetie, A Fast, Easy To Use, A Full-Featured Twitter iPhone App I agree with John Gruber on this one, so far Tweetie is the best iPhone app for Twitter out there (I’m sure more are on the way). It’s meets most of my mobile Twitter requirements. You can download it for $2.99 from the iTunes Store. Here’s a breakdown of it’s features: - Handle multiple twitter accounts. - View your timeline, replies, direct messages and favorites. - Browse your friends and followers. - Post new tweets, retweet - Reply directly to tweets and send direct messages. - Follow and unfollow people. - Mark tweets as favorites. - Navigate reply chains....

Tweetie: The new Twitter app for the iPhone [Preview]Earlier on this week I got the opportunity to road test a new Twitter app for the iPhone/iPod touch. Tweetie was developed by a company called atebits and was submitted to the app store pending approval on the 11th of November so it should be out very soon, in the mean time I thought I would quickly run through some of services and features of Tweetie and some early thoughts. Okay so first up is the feature list. Handle multiple twitter accounts. View your timeline, replies, direct messages and favorites. Browse your friends and followers. Post new tweets, retweet, reply...

Opera 9.6 releasedFiled under: Internet, Windows, Macintosh, Linux, E-mail, Browsers After spending some time in the beta tank, the Opera browser team has released Opera 9.6. The latest version of the Opera web browser adds a few new features, not all of which are related to the web. For instance, Opera has a built in email client. Opera 9.6 has a new low bandwidth mode that prevents attachments from being automatically downloaded if you have an IMAP account. For POP users, just the first 100 lines of a message are available unless you click on the message.Opera 9.6 also has a new...

The Best/Worse of Gmail Labs While I am still disappointed at the lack of a to-do list application in Google’s app offerings, I do have to give them credit for continually doing things. Gmail has been around for awhile and still sports the “beta” designation. I don’t know if that will ever change, but perhaps one reason for that is that some of the Gmail Labs features may find their way into the main application. And some of them should. If you use Google’s Gmail and you haven’t checked out the Labs, I recommend you do so. You’ll see a tiny green flask icon...

New to QBase: the Startup Exchange allows the leveraging of the wisdom of our community to value startup companies. It’s the first predictive market around startup companies that actually provides a dynamic valuation for these companies. Each company on the Startup Exchange has one million shares, so a company trading at T$100 is valued as a $100 million company by our community. Anyone can participate in the Startup Exchange. New players receive T$100,000 to invest in any company on the exchange. If they think a company is over valued, they also have the option of short selling the stock. There...

Simplify Your Work“Gee, that looks complicated.” This was what I said when I looked through a friend’s project proposal, which included a mind map of madness. She replied, “It has to be, if I want it to look professional.” As a fan of living a clutter-free life, I had to disagree. With web workers being more prone to information overload and cluttered inboxes, it’s even more important for us to simplify our work. So how do we keep things as simple as possible? Avoid “feature creep”. When a program has more features than is necessary, that’s what programmers often refer to as...
"Don’t do everything perfectly. It’s alright to spend hours proofreading and nitpicking the website copy your client requested, but it’s probably not worth it to spend hours making sure that your office file folders are color-coordinated and that the labels are perfectly aligned. Perfection is important for major work tasks, but not for minor tasks that are for your eyes only. Now, keeping it simple might not work for everybody. Other personalities thrive on complexity and busy-ness. However, I meet the occasional web worker who doesn’t want to do or worry more than he has to - and in these cases, simplifying work is the best way to start." - John Samuelson

Google Continues to Roll Out Gmail Labs Features It appears that Google is just about finished rolling out its latest enhancement to Gmail and so far we like what we’re seeing. Gmail Labs was first announced last month and is exactly what you think it would be if you’ve ever played around with Google Labs before; a collection of experimental Gmail add-ons. Initially available only to US and UK users, we’re now getting word that other regions have gotten a taste of the Google juice as well. Google explains Gmail Labs as follows: Gmail engineers come up with new ideas all the time. Gmail Labs is our...

Technorati as Blog Search and Conversation Tracker DOAToday I deleted well over 100 custom searches I have been doing on Technorati for a very long time. Simple reason is this, the site is useless. I have given them every chance to scale and fix their issues. After today their site is in my personal dead pool. It’s a sad state of affairs that they never could master indexing blog conversations. They did a great job for a while, so good in fact that I would have paid a monthly subscription to find information that was not available anyplace yet. Search results have degraded to the point that...

Plurk on the desktop: what's already out there, and what's nextFiled under: Windows, Blogging, Social SoftwareThere are already more desktop apps for Twitter than we could ever possibly cover without losing our minds. But what about that OTHER microblogging service, Plurk? A couple of people have hacked the mobile version into Adobe Air to create two similar apps: PlurkAir and PlurkIt. This is ok for now, but it's nowhere near the level that Twitter clients have achieved. That's where Plurker comes in. It's scheduled to be the first dedicated Windows desktop version of Plurk, and the feature list looks pretty impressive. Sort Plurks using custom searches, set alerts for private...
