The Hyundai Stellar was quite the mishmash of parts-bin bargains, with the same chassis as the Ford Cortina Mk 5, a Mitsubishi engine, and styling by Giorgetto Giugiaro. That doesn't matter, however; what does matter is that ads for Korean cars have the most awesome combo of macho voiceover and cheezy echo effects in the history of automotive marketing. For another good one, check out the Daewoo Maepsy ad when you're done here....
Filed under: Industry, Blu-ray, Other formats It's a momentous occasion, folks. Sony -- the outfit known for boldly sticking to its proprietary guns when perfectly acceptable options are widely available -- is finally showing that it can reach across the aisle to get things done. All politics aside, the January-bound Pineapple Express will include a downloadable version from iTunes. We're told that this is the first time in which a Sony Pictures Home Entertainment release has included such a thing, and yes, a traditional digital copy for PCs / PSPs will also be bundled with the DVD / Blu-ray. Which...
In an attempt to convince college students that it's really cool to drop thirteen large on a domestic-branded subcompact hatchback, Chevy has relaunched their "Livin' Large" campaign with a "College Cab" that films students inside a Chevy Aveo5 during a three to four minute ride. It's the third year of "Livin' Large" and this year GM's got a better product and a new strategy. Sure, the '09 Aveo5 is a rebadged Daewoo making an Edsel face, but at least it gets decent crash test ratings, has better fuel economy than its predecessor, and is one of the cheapest cars...
According to the rumors, the Getz-replacing Hyundai i20 could be coming stateside, complete with an ultra-clean diesel and even a hybrid version. The i20 is getting 1.2- and 1.4-liter gasoline engines, but it looks like the diesel version, dubbed i-blue, is the pick of the range, delivering up to 68 MPG. There could even be a hybrid version in the works, although the gas/electric version still appears to be in development. All of a sudden, that Daewoo Cruze isn’t looking so competitive after all....
Looks like Daewoo is getting a re-badged version of the Chevy Cruze. The 40+ MPG mass-market economy-car game-changer is destined to be sold globally, heralding a new era of practical, desirable, frugal cars from GM. Expect the Daewoo version to offer both the 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine as well as the 150 HP turbo diesel the Cruze will come equipped with in Europe. Oh yeah, there’s that big ugly chrome grille too. [ via Burlapp Cars]...
At the time of this posting, the Chevy Beat is not approved for US consumption, but that doesn't mean it can't undergo testing in the great state of New York — wearing dealer plates, no less. These images come via an eagle-eyed forum member over at GMInsideNews and show the Beat on its evolutionary path from angry little hornet concept to mildly perturbed production pod. Given the number of times we've seen the Daewoo-sourced minicar on domestic shores, we have to believe something is up; the presence of dealer instead of manufacturer plates on this tester simply reinforces our suspicions....
Folding screens (that occasionally useful piece of furniture, and classic movie prop) get a dab of 21st Century tech with the DID-FS from Daewoo. The old-fashioned wooden frame is there, but supplemented by four LCD widescreens, mounted vertically. That leaves you free to choose what pictures you're using to break up your living space into themes. It'll probably leave you with an empty wallet too, given current LCD prices for displays that big, but there's no info on pricing or availability. That doesn't stop me from lusting after this though... maybe I can achieve the same effect with some MDF,...
Filed under: Displays, Others, LCD In a parting note from IFA, Daewoo unveiled this odd folding screen, featuring four integrated LCDs. Fully integrated into each of the wood panels, apparently the displays can show video from up to four sources, although there was otherwise little information from the booth staff about the DID-FS. Of course, where some might ask why would they build such a contraption, we see the perfect tool for a The Golden Child reenactment waiting to happen.[Via BornRich]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments...
Daewoo has announced a video wall folding screen. The DID-FS, has four integrated LCD panels and could be cool in a digital frame sort of way where the user could place artwork for prettying up a bedroom space. The kind of screen that women use to change their clothes when someone else is in the room now has video monitors built in so that … what? There is one cool advantage to this design, as the video panels can either work in concert or be dedicated independently. So, if a user likes to watch different sports or news channels,...
The DID-FS Digital Folding Screen from Daewoo is a 4-panel room divider that integrates 4 separate LCD video displays. Each screen can be fed independently of the rest, so you can really go to town with this display array. Play all your video game systems at once, or perhaps watch four different shows. Hell, set up a camera to keep track of what’s happening on the other side. Point a camera at a window and quadruple the windows in your cramped little apartment. The possibilities are endless I tells ya. via Dvice...
According to the folks over at Hyundai-Blog, what we're looking at here is the Daewoo version of the 2011 Chevy Beat in all its glory. We're a bit suspicious as it appears to be sitting on the floor of some unnamed auto show, but the refined body panels suggest production intent and design for manufacture, so we'll buy it for now. Shockingly the Beat maintains much of its radical, in-your-face styling and bizarrely grows a set of roof racks, O.G. Plymouth Neon-style. Still. the Korean-built compact is in the undecided category for US sales, but we actually like the styling,...
Filed under: OTAA few UK residents felt the pain Raid-style after the latest Freeview signal upgrade knocked certain receivers out of service last week. The upgrade has been rolling out in waves for the last month, unfortunately owners of some Daewoo, Labgear, Triax and Portland digital boxes have no choice but to buy a new box to keep getting television service. Hopefully our own digital transition doesn't end up with people trashing their box after a couple of years -- while Freeview says only a "minority" were affected by the enhancement, we're pretty sure it doesn't seem that way if...
Although it's not the first photo showing what to expect from the interior of the new Chevy Cruze, it's much clearer than the last shot. We're told the new fuel sipper from Chevrolet will hit the showroom floors as a 2010 model, sport an impressive-if-true 45 MPG and will be built out of the General's Lordstown, OH plant, just across the assembly line from it's Chevy brother the Cobalt. Oh, ignore the Daewoo logo — we're expecting it to be built for the KDM (Korean Domestic Market) as well. Jalopnik Snap Judgment: So what do we think of the interior...
