Disney Pixar’s Ultimate Control Wall-E unboxing gallery We just received one of the new Disney Pixar Ultimate Control Wall-E remote controlled robots, and we just had to share. If you’ve been looking for a Wall-E robot toy that mimics the actions of Wall-E from the movie, this is it. It features movie-like movement, the original character voice, and familiar sound effects. As soon as you turn him on, Wall-E comes to life, introduces himself, and then follows your commands. You can have him respond specifically to the remote control, which controls movement of his head, arms, hands, wrists, and body, as well as expressions and phrases....

Disney takes on Chinese affiliate over piracy(Credit: Disney-Pixar) Disney is fighting a piracy war over its acclaimed film Wall-E against a company that its venture capital arm invested in, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal. The infringing company, 56.com, a Chinese video sharing site that's similar to YouTube, hosted several full-length bootlegs of Wall-E that were freely available on the company's site. The bootlegs were added by users of the site months ago, but only recently have they been fully removed from its pages. Piracy in China is nothing new, but the fact that 56.com featured Disney movies on its site is ironic,...

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Floats: A Sneak Peek — Macy's Parade Studio in Hoboken opened its doors today for children from various New Jersey elementary schools to get a preview of this year's eight new floats and four new giant helium balloons. Disney/Pixar's new Bolt movie was represented, but the real star was a freaky display of Woodland creatures celebrating the first Thanksgiving. (Or celebrating their first acid-fueled orgy?) And if you grew up on the Smurfs, you'll be happy or appalled to know there will be a giant Smurf balloon along with a whole Smurf village float, all celebrating the 50th Smurf-iversary. They really are that old! Here's...

3D Webcam Makes It Real 3D is all the rage now with printers, cameras and now a webcam. The Novo Minoru 3D webcam looks a lot like Disney/Pixar's Wall-E robot and brings the promise of 3D video home. In an attractive red color, the webcam has two cameras spaced roughly the same distance apart as human eye. Imagess from the two are mixed together into a single stream to create the 3D effect. It's not going to be terribly comfortable to use though. Viewers have to wear special red and blue colored goofy glasses to see the 3D image. The good news? Five pairs...

Bandai’s NetTansorWeb Robot is all over the house If you’ve seen the Disney/PIXAR movie WALL-E last summer, then the Bandai NetTansorWeb robot will probably look strangely familiar. Robot Japan 2008 was the stage for Bandai as they presented the NetTansorWeb, which unveiled a new robotic friend with some interesting features. The NetTansorWeb is designed with surveillance cameras, and can move around your house automatically while you are gone, checking for intruders. It has sensors that will avoid obstacles, which I can only assume stairs. You can also control the robot via WiFi to check things that the autopilot is probably missing. I have no idea if you...

Penguins Flying in Military Planes from Brazil's Beaches to the South Atlantic [Holy Flying Penguins]Get ready to fight to dead for this one, Disney, Pixar, and Dreamworks: More than a thousand penguins have suddenly appeared on the beaches of Brazil. The scientists can't explain why this is happening. Some say they are somehow confused. Knowing the views in Brazil's beaches, I personally think they are not confused at all. Brazilian National Institute for Space Research climatologist Jose Marengo thinks the penguins—who are being airlifted back to its origin by the air force—got lost because of changes in the ocean circulation in the South Atlantic: Clearly we've been seeing changes in the ocean circulation in...

Google launches Moderator for Q&A meeting sessionsGoogle has released a free Web-based service called Moderator that organizations can use to improve question-and-answer sessions during heavily attended meetings.Moderator lets event participants both submit questions to meeting leaders and vote in favor or against the questions they like or dislike.[ Keep up on the latest tech news headlines at InfoWorld News, or subscribe to the Today's Headlines newsletter. ]In theory, meeting leaders will be able to ask speakers the questions that the group democratically chose as the best ones. The goal is to improve on the random, ad-hoc selection via the raised-hands method and thus make better use of...

We started our day a little later than planned (i.e. got up at 7:30am instead of 7am) because we didn’t realize that the time on the alarm clock was set to AM last night when we set the alarm. This is no big deal since we are on vacation after all but we did have a full day planned. We grabbed some breakfast via the hotel’s continental offering (”waffles and bagels and donuts, Oh My!” as Judy said), and then headed off to Epcot. We arrived at Epcot around 9:30am and the park seemed relatively empty. By noon the...

Mickey Mouse Pushes Blu-Rayby Michelle Lentz I should probably preface this post with something: I’m addicted to Disney. Not Hannah Montana / Jonas Bros Disney, but Pixar / Disney Animiated Classics type of thing. Pop Disney’s animated Robin Hood into the DVD player, and I’m content. We recently purchased a Sony PS3 - games for my husband and a Blu-Ray player for me. The first Blu-Ray movie I purchased was Disney/Pixar’s Cars. Not only was it an incredibly pretty viewing experience, I had a blast with the special features that were enabled via Blu-Ray technology. Disney thinks everyone should get on the Blu-Ray...

Scifi's Reign Of Animation Is Only Just Beginning [Animation]For the first time ever, two animated science fiction movies will open the same day, this Friday. Of course, Star Wars: Clone Wars will smush the flies-in-space epic Fly Me To The Moon like... well, like a bug. But this animated traffic jam is still significant, because of what it signals: the rise of animated science fiction from a minor subgenre to a full-blown genre in its own right, complete with a range of competing styles. There's been plenty of animated scifi before this summer, of course — Fox and Blue Sky put out the bog-awful Robots a few years...

Wall-E And The Incredibles Live Again - As Comic Books [The Incredibles] Before Comic-Con even got underway, Boom! Studios was stealing headlines with the announcement of their new deal with Disney/Pixar that will see six new series based upon Pixar movies hitting comic stores soon. All of the names you'd expect to see are there, including this summer's smash Wall-E. But our pick for the must-have series? Former Flash and Fantastic Four writer Mark Waid's take on The Incredibles, with cover art by DC: The New Frontier's Darwyn Cooke. Talking to Newsarama, Waid - who is also the Editor-in-Chief of Boom! - explained that the deal between the publisher and Pixar...

Toy Review: Transforming WALL-EIt should come as no surprise to anyone that there’s a fair number of toys available relating to Disney-Pixar’s current feature film, WALL-E. After all, there’s a fair number of toys available relating to any Disney theatrical release of any significance, and in the case of WALL-E, almost all of the main characters are robots - the perfect subjects for licensed toys. Also unsurprisingly, the great bulk of said toys depict the film’s eponymous hero. Not only is he the star, he’s easier to make a toy of than his leading lady EVE (because, well, EVE moves by levitating and...
