It looks like the kids at Buffalo are hard at work making sure that all of you netbook-lovin' Engadget readers aren't stuck with the minimal storage that has plagued early adopters of the solid state drive. In addition to their recent Eee PC-compatible SSDs, the company is now offering 16GB and 32GB drives for Dell's Inspiron Mini 9. Due out sometime this month, the 16GB should set you back ¥5,300 ($57), or you can shell out ¥9,400 ($101) for the 32GB.[Via Slashgear] Filed under: LaptopsBuffalo unveils 16GB and 32GB SSDs for Inspiron Mini 9 originally appeared on Engadget on...
Asus has said they will be pushing their price point down in 2009, possibly to escape the overcrowded $300-$400 netbook arena and compete against the far less capable pocket PCs and smartphones that go for two Benjamins. They haven’t said much aside from that, but could it be that the changes they’re making to the Eee Box are going to spread to the EeePC? A Celeron 220 processor isn’t exactly a step up, although it might help them reduce prices. Personally, I’d like to see innovation in form factor or interface, like HP is trying come January. Damn, the...
Cheaper and cheaper.Asus is set to release a $200 (£130) netbook next year, two years after it announced the first Eee PC at Computex 2007 with the promise that the mini laptop would be available at that price point....
Just in sync with what ASUS told us, the Eee PC 1002HA is popping up on U.S. retail sites, including ZipZoomFly.com and Buy.com for $499. The retailers sites still say you have to pre-order the 1002HA but we expect them to start shipping soon, because ASUS told us the 1002HA will begin shipping in early December and will replace the Eee PC 1000H. The Eee PC 1002HA’s design is a cross between the Eee PC S101 and the Eee PC 1000H and sports a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, and Windows XP Home. It also packs a...
The following letter is a response to TechCrunch’s post entitled “Three Reasons Why Netbooks Just Aren’t Good Enough” by Michael Arrington. Dear Mr. Arrington, I write this on a MSI Wind netbook as a longtime fan of your blogs and posts. However, your recent post on “Why Netbooks Just Aren’t Good Enough” gives me pause. Firstly, your article showed very little research on the current state of netbooks. While I do not want to dwell on your factual inaccuracies (as already outlined out by Liliputing and Boing Boing Gadgets) it is important to note that: Most netbooks today come with...
I have not been a huge fan of Netbooks, mostly due to the size of the keyboard, screen, and worried over performance. Having a chance to review the HP Mini 1000 changed that for me, though. The HP Mini 1000 is a fantastic choice for those wanting something more mobile without wanting to break the bank. I’ve been very impressed with the speed, the comfort of the keyboard, and spacious screen. Fan noise was almost non-existant. The screen is very glossy, and if glossy screens bug you, then the Mini 1000 isn’t for you. Personally, I like the vibrant colors...
Another thing I have a vague recollection of was an announcement in August or September that Asus was going to offer an Eee PC with a built-in EVDO modem and a service plan. This started the thread about $99 netbooks. The product was supposed to ship in October but I can't find any evidence of it. Do you know what happened? Did they ship? If not, is it still planned?...
Between all the Black Friday and pre-Christmas sales and discounts, you may find that buying a loved one a new computer, PDA, or smart phone is within your budgetary reach. Before you do that, though, make sure this gift will be something the recipient wants. Electronics configurations vary a great deal — even if you know that someone on your list wants a PDA, do you know what brand or model? If they covet an Eee PC, do they want the 4G Surf, the 901, or the 1000H? This is important not just to make the giftee happy, but to...
Acer’s netbooks are set to get bigger and cheaper in the new year, according to Acer Taiwan boss Scott Lin. The company will be launching a 10” version of its Aspire One in February or March of 2009, clearly taking aim at the sweet spot for size and portability already covered by the Eee PC, the Wind and Dell’s Minispiron. Lin also says that he expects prices to keep dropping, although netbooks won’t see the big reductions of the mid range (US$900-1200) models. It’s actually pretty hard to see where things are going in the netbok world. They obviously...
The folks over at Laptop have gotten some quality face time with a pre-production model of ASUS' 10-inch Eee PC 1002 HA, and they seem to like a lot of what they're seeing. It boasts stylings reminiscent of both the Eee PC S101 (trackpad) and the 1000H (keyboard), and as such is basically a hybridized version of the two, though the test model "wouldn't power on" so we can't got much further than that. We do however, know that it'll house a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom CPU with 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive, and that it'll...
Filed under: Laptops The Eee PC 901 has always been the sweet spot model in ASUS's alphabet soup of a netbook line, and the 901GO launched today in France makes it even more desirable with a larger 8700mAh battery and a faster 16GB SSD capable of 50MB/s writes and 87MB/s reads. Of course, you can get the same 1.6GHz Atom processor, 1GB of RAM and 8.9-inch screen in the 900A for $280, so the new 901GO's €399 ($505) pricetag seems perhaps a bit much, but the cutting edge ain't a cheap place to live, kids.[Via Electronista]Eee PC 901GO with faster...
