Safari market share tops 7%, but tracking firm admits data is skewedApple's Safari browser hit a record 7.13% user penetration for November, according to a report by Net Applications and described on Market Share's Hits Link page. It's very impressive, considering the browser only debuted in 2003 and until recently was limited to computers running Apple's OS X operating system. Is Safari so widespread? A post on MacRumors.com credits Safari for having "crested 7% of worldwide browser market share," but that's not actually what Net Applications measures. The company tracks browser usage -- how many hits are coming from browser A vs. browser B. In November, several factors skewed the results...

AIPAC At Foggy BottomSo far, they're happy with Hillary:She had resoundingly rejected the idea of negotiating with Hamas; she has endorsed the security fence; and she supported a resolution sponsored by Senators Kyl and Lieberman that urged the White House to designate Iran's revolutionary guard as a terrorist organization, a measure opposed by both Obama and Biden. These stances have won many fans among pro-Israel hawks. "Senator Clinton's track record during her years in the senate has been outstanding," says Malcolm Hoenlein, the executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. "In addition to the public record, she...

Lexus LF-A Laps Fuji Speedway [2011 Lexus LF-A]Even though we still don’t know when we’ll be seeing a production Lexus LF-A and, rumor has it, the program has been considered for cancellation, Toyota rolled out its race version at the Toyota Motorsports Festival at Fuji Speedway. The LF-A — the same one that raced this summer’s Nurburgring 24 Hours — was piloted by Akio Toyoda, the company’s Executive Vice President and chief proponent of the LF-A program. The appearance comes amid mixed rumors of the LF-A future. According to Edmunds Inside Line, Toyoda was able to keep the LF-A alive, albeit in an altered form. Instead of...

MySpace Music Gets New Leadership to Match New Direction MySpace Music just “officially” launched earlier this year in September, and it has unsurprisingly become an integral part in MySpace’s overall product map moving forward. To help steer that product map in the right direction is Courtney Holt, the newly appointed President of MySpace Music. As a former Executive Vice President of Digital Music for the MTV Networks Music and Logo Group, Holt has worked with the music and the web-based aspects of both industries. Specifically, Holt has worked on several initiatives for engaging audiences online and offline–something he’ll likely bring to his new position as the MySpace Music...

Confirmed: Courtney Holt to be new MySpace Music CEONegotiations must have taken awhile, but music industry veteran Courtney Holt is now officially the new chief executive of MySpace Music. Word leaked out about Holt’s interest in the job earlier month. MySpace Music, meanwhile, went ahead and launched at the end of September after passing over several other candidates. Still, the joint venture between social network MySpace and major record labels could use a guy like Holt at the helm. He’s been working in new media promotion at record labels since the 1990s, and more recently has been helping to run MTV at Viacom. MySpace Music, a part of...

Yahoo OneSearch coming to T-Mobile phones? According to InfoWorld, Marco Boerries, executive vice president and head of Yahoo’s Connected Life Division, let it slip that T-Mobile and Yahoo will be announcing a partnership to put the Yahoo OneSearch button on T-Mobile phones. If this rumor pans out, this is good news for Yahoo whose financial struggles are, well, numerous. Yahoo OneSearch may be Yahoo’s ray of hope as OneSearch is doing rather well in the mobile search market. AT&T also inked a deal with Yahoo back in September to bring OneSearch to AT&T handsets. Yahoo has an exclusive deal with O2 in the UK and...

Would hunter Hillary run afoul of Obama's gun question 59?I read a number of neo-conservative, libertarian-conservative, liberal, and other types of political blogs. Two of the blogs that I regularly read have expressed a concern about the questionnaire that applicants to the Obama administration have to fill out.Front Sight, Press linked to a post in Learn About Guns, which itself links to a statement from the National Rifle Association, which itself links to a PDF of the Obama questionnaire, hosted at the New York Times. Question number 59 is the one that has everyone hot:Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide...

Top 10: Worrisome financial news, Shanghai released, Xen coming to the iPhoneStart to finish, the week was full of news related to the sorry state of the global economy, with Sun capping things off by announcing it will cut thousands of jobs. Casting a little hopeful light on yet another week of dismal news was optimism from IT professionals who say that, unlike with previous downturns, they aren't being ordered to make drastic cuts. In somewhat brighter news, AMD launched its Shanghai quad-core Opteron chip, Citrix is bringing its XenApps and XenDesktop software to the iPhone, and Microsoft has released an updated, less-restricted API for its Live Search.1. Lots of Unanswered Questions Here’s what I’m curious about: 1. Nortel is planning on cutting 1,300 positions but despite announcing plans on Sept. 17 that it was restructuring, no one seems to have lost their job yet other than four senior executives: John Roese, Lauren Flaherty, Dietmar Wendt and Bill Nelson. It seems like a bizarre way to conduct business. Imagine if you’re a hard-working Nortel employee, and you have no idea whether you’re going to be among the 25% who’s going to lose their job over the next two months or one of the 75% slated to get turfed in early-2009. So,...
