We try to keep things simple ’round here by keeping the tech news flowing and the mistakes to a minimum, but occasionally things slip through. Take for example I called Porsche Italian yesterday and got totally reamed in the comments. My mistake fellas. Apparantly I struck a nerve in one Porsche fanboy and I thought everyone would get a kick out of his spirited response. What’s douchier? Having the taste and style to appreciate perhaps the most important automotive design and engineering accomplishments ever, or writing blog posts about video game gear without even a basic understanding of the subject? I’m pretty sure my...
So far about every major and niche computer maker has announced a Core i7 desktop platform this week and ASUS is not to be outdone. The ROG CG6190 pairs up the powerful Core i7 Extreme Edition with the Intel X58 chipset. The press release isn’t exactly clear but it seems that the box can support up to 12 GB of triple channel DDR 1333 memory and 4TB of hard drives with the graphics being provided by a 3-way SLI and ATI CrossFireX graphics. All this computing power has to come at a price but ASUS didn’t announce how much it will...
Google Universal Search presents a mixed content in search results – you get a couple of YouTube clips, some news headlines and sometimes book snippets on the same page . The idea is that Google users need not have to visit other search properties (like News Search, Videos, etc) to find related information on the same topic. Now try looking for Matt Foley on Google and what you get is a search page with 70% video content. Very interesting. H/t Aaron Wall. According to Cnet test labs, the Falcon Northwest Mach V is the fastest PC in the planet, beating the Alienware Area-51 ALX. How fast you ask? How about being the first PC ever to hit 60 frames per second running Crysis on high-resolution? Yes. That fast. Cnet says that the Falcon Northwest Mach V has the latest and bestest combination of components there is, which is what makes it the fastest thing on chips: • 3.79GHz Intel Core i7 965 Extreme Edition. • An Intel X58 chipset. • 12GB of 1,066MHz DDR3 SDRAM. • 2 x 1GB ATI Radeon HD...

Just in the time for the recession, Intel is rolling out Monday its latest high-end family of microprocessors, the Core i7. The chips have four cores, or processing brains, and are based on the company’s code-named Nehalem architecture. There will be three models for high-end consumer desktop computers and gaming machines. It’s a big step forward for Intel, but the big question at the moment is whether anyone will buy it, given the severe recession. Intel has already shaved a billion dollars in revenue from its fourth-quarter revenue estimates. More than 18 computer makers are expected to begin selling high-end...
Filed under: Desktops YoYotech is making no bones about their Fi7epower MLK1610 PC: according to them, it's "the fastest PC in the world," and "officially," at that. Well then. The dubious value of such claims aside, the so-called "completely insane" MLK1610 houses an Intel Core i7-965 Extreme Edition CPU (overclocked to 3.73GHz) atop an X58 chipset, 9GB of DDR3 RAM, an 80GB Intel X25-M SSD, 1TB standard hard drive, a Radeon HD 4870 X2 graphics card with 2GB of GDDR5 RAM, and it's all sitting on ASUS' P6T motherboard. P7etty sweet, right? It's probably worth the £3,995.85 (about $6,337) you're...
Filed under: Desktops We've already seen a few benchmarks of Intel's new Core i7 processor, but if you're still craving some more details about Intel's latest and greatest you now have plenty more than that to chew on, with reviews, overviews, and yet more benchmarks pouring in left and right. As you might expect, most sites are describing the CPU as a very big deal for Intel, with the folks at Maximum PC even going so far as to call it the company's "most significant CPU launch in, well, ever." What's more, as those early benchmarks hinted at, it doesn't...
Tick tock? More like ding-dong, mutha—shut your mouth. What baby? We’re talkin’ about Core i7. Our apologies to Isaac Hayes, but if he were alive, we’re almost certain he would have been tapped to hammer out a theme song for Intel’s most significant CPU launch in, well, ever. Why is this CPU more significant than the 8088, Pentium, or Pentium M? As the second new chip produced after a series of embarrassing losses to archrival AMD, the Core i7 will answer for the world whether Intel is prepared to ride the momentum of its Core 2 launch with another winning chip...
With the upcoming debut of the 2010 Ford Mustang at the LA Auto Show, the existing enormous slate of special-edition Mustangs will be wiped clean, ready for a new crop. But not before a couple more special editions come out, like the Saleen Dark Horse. Only 25 of the 620 HP, supercharged, shaker-hood-scoop-intake-wearing Dark Horse Mustangs will be available, and above that, in a livery Henry Ford would approve of: black only. That black gets dropped over a full body kit with matte-black stripes tossed in for good measure. Your daily recommended allowance of "special edition" Mustang details below. SALEEN...
Filed under: Desktops Surely you've been wondering what types of motherboards would be surfacing to support Intel's Core i7, no? Regardless of your answer, we're pretty sure the gamers and performance mavens in the house will appreciate Gigabyte's latest effort. The prototype mobo, coined Extreme Edition, was recently displayed at NVIDIA's NVISION 08 expo, and if the final version is anything like this, we'd say some records are in real danger of being obliterated. The unit was said to be based on the X58 chipset and provide support for up to six graphics cards, 24GB of DDR3-1333 RAM (or 6GB...
