I recently got an email from the folks at Chitika which informed me that I could make referral commissions on anybody I refer to Chitika for a full 15 months. They even provided me a shortcut link to send my referral link out to Twitter. But, is Chitika really any good? I have been using Chitika for some time over on PCMech.com. I do not put very much into the program and it has been very much one of my minority income streams. But, even without putting much into it, I have been making a couple hundred dollars per...
The folks over at Laptop have gotten some quality face time with a pre-production model of ASUS' 10-inch Eee PC 1002 HA, and they seem to like a lot of what they're seeing. It boasts stylings reminiscent of both the Eee PC S101 (trackpad) and the 1000H (keyboard), and as such is basically a hybridized version of the two, though the test model "wouldn't power on" so we can't got much further than that. We do however, know that it'll house a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom CPU with 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive, and that it'll...
As a greenhouse gas, methane is 21 times more powerful than carbon dioxide when it comes to retaining atmospheric heat. And so, although it generally gets less face time in the press, it accounts for a disproportionately large chunk of global GHG emissions. Where does the methane come from? Cows, mostly. At the tail end (pardon the pun) of their digestive system, they release methane; either directly or through the decomposition of their waste. Capturing this methane, then, reduces GHG emissions. Additionally, cow-produced methane is a renewable energy source that, after a little cleaning, can be added into the...
Last week–in a clear sign that BoomTown has spent way too much face time in front of the idiot box–I compared the endless bickering back-and-forth between Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to the annoying push-me-pull-you antics of Ross and Rachel on the television show, “Friends.” But the continuing discussions between Yahoo and AOL execs over the merger of their struggling online companies has its own TV comparison–the never-ending roundelay on “The View.” In other words: Blah, blah, blah. Chitter-chatter. Pointless arguing. Chin-scratching. More blah, blah. More chatter. Blah. Thus, there were still more discussions going...
This week marks the debut of Seth Green's latest Robot Chicken Star Wars special, and we've got the first laugh-out-loud clip from it. Also, there's a sweeps-month shock on Terminator, Woolsey's up for his performance evaluation and it's up to the Stargate Atlantis crew to save his job, True Blood's Lafayette gets political and Fringe is back. Monday: Riley and John take a not-so-joyful ride to Mexico, — and Sarah gets some much needed face time with James Ellison. Will we finally get from Ellison answers? Plus the promos are promising that tonight will be one character's "last stand." Who...
A week after landing a case study on the New York Times tech page, workplace monitoring toolmaker FaceTime has sent home an unspecified number of staff. Here's the standard Tough Times, Tough Decisions email from CEO Kailash Ambwani: Dear Team: As you're all aware, Facetime had to say goodbye to a large number of team members earlier today. This action was taken in response to the very tough economic times the world is currently facing. In order to keep the Company moving forward, we are reducing our operating expenses by ~30%. The size of the reduction reflects our view of...
As the presidential race enters its long-last homestretch this weekend, Barack Obama continues to leverage his online advantage to feed his campaign’s insatiable appetite for campaign contributions to fuel his massive advertising blitz (Exhibit A: last night’s nationwide infomercial). Compete’s most recent data on traffic to the candidates’ websites shows that BarackObama.com attracted over 3 million unique visitors last week, compared to the 1.3 million that visited JohnMcain.com. Absent an October surprise in the final weekend of the race, John McCain faces stiff odds of turning the latest polls around at this late date and his VP choice appears to...
Looks like Nokia’s marketing peeps struck gold, probably purchasing some significant face time for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic on Britney’s Womanizer: And in an earlier scene, it was made sure that the Nokia logo shimmered, right around here: Which begs the question: will we see more Nokia-Britney collaborations? Britney’s record as an endorser is tainted, mainly because she was caught drinking Coke while Pepsi paid her millions. In any case, I don’t think so. This was probably a one-shot deal for Nokia, who are traditionally quiet regarding celebrity endorsements, yet want to push the 5800—their new unofficial flagship for the...
Federated Media (our advertising partner) has been experimenting with “conversational marketing” almost since their launch in 2005. Today they are launching a new marketing toolbox for advertisers which gives them tools to track all the ways users interact with these ads. The goal, says Federated Media, isn’t just to track ad impressions and clicks, but also to look at a new set of metrics like posts, trackbacks, votes, RSS subscriptions, comments, etc, where users somehow interact with the advertisement and talk about it. Hopefully, a conversation occurs between users, the ad publisher and the advertiser, which gives the advertiser’s...
Last week Mike Cane attended the Sony Reader PRS-700 unveil in New York; while there he saw Dave Farrow, the world renowned speed reader who is also a Guinness World Record holder. Mike had the opportunity to get some face time with a few of the very Sony people he has criticized in his past blog posts. Before I mention Mike’s impressions of the PRS-700, I have to tell you about one of the brief meetings he had with the Sony execs, because it was epic: Then someone entered our proximity and was told it was Me. And that person...
The New Xbox Experience is ready to go live soon as part of the Xbox fall update, and after getting some quality face time with the UI and it's new features, I'm pretty impressed. The update addresses the core Xbox software on two levels: most notable is that the design of the UI received a complete overhaul, (mostly) eschewing the blades for a more immersive, intuitive, Media Center-like experience. Secondly, it adds new functionality, allowing for Netflix streaming, group-based gaming, heavily customized avatars, ripping games straight to HDD and an all new quick menu that comes up when you hit...
Filed under: Cellphones, Handhelds She's arrived at last, the 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia's tardy entry into the (modern) touchscreen phone space, and we've gotten some quality face time with the device. Appropriately nicknamed the Tube, the device has a number of Nokia peculiarities that could appeal to certain sensibilities, but probably won't be taking a big bite out of existing touchphone market share -- at least in the S60-phobic United States. Let's dig in, shall we?Gallery: Nokia 5800 XpressMusic hands-onContinue reading Nokia 5800 XpressMusic hands-onPermalink | Email this | Comments...
Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Gaming, iPhone, App Store, iPod touchWell color me surprised -- after almost a month with no activity, the handcircus blog has sprung back into action. I was getting worried that the great-looking iPhone game Rolando was on the brink of becoming vaporware, since we were expecting it back in August, and we hadn't heard a peep since then. But no, apparently the game (which looks like an intriguing mix of Loco Roco and Kirby's Canvas) is still being developed, and is still heading for the App Store. Which is great -- we'd rather have it...
Everyone and their grandmother rocks a camera phone these days. We’ve finally reached a point where even the cheapest of cheap entry-level handsets is at least packing a 1.3 megapixel shooter, allowing user to capture those dark, fuzzy, pixelated memories while on the go. Samsung’s freshly-announced handset however, the Pixon M8800, should most certainly not be lumped into the same category as these shoddy camera phones. In fact, it’s more of a “phone camera” than a camera phone. Sure it can make calls, send and receive messages, browse the web and handle a few games, but none of those...
