30 Things I Learned From Blogging Heroes Part 1 I've finally managed to finished a book I've been spending the last few months reading called "Blogging Heroes" which was authored by Michael A. Banks. This post is the first in a two part series which will highlight 30 things I have learned by reading this book. Dave Taylor 1. Write only when your inspired and write more...

Pop!Tech: The Internet as Confessional If you're at a movie theater, look around for someone sitting alone and wearing a white hat. He or she might be part of a secret community. The community was inspired by PostSecret, a blog where people anonymously mail postcards containing their secrets to Frank Warren, the site's founder. Warren believes the internet can bring people together in new ways and offers the opportunity for anyone to make a positive impact on the world. The white-hat rendezvous grew out of an anonymous postcard on the blog that read, "I take comfort in the darkness of the movie theater, waiting...

Lifehacker Confessions: The Tips and Tricks I'm Not Using [Friday Fun]Reading Lifehacker can inspire you to reboot your computer habits, your workflow, your workspace, and even your home life. Believe me, I should know. About a year ago, I was a messy-desked, easily-distracted reporter who relished his lunch-break reading of Lifehacker's RSS feed. I asked to write a few posts, lucked into a real gig, and can now tell the story of my journey to becoming a task-minded guru of getting things done with the right software. That's not a true story, though. Inspired by an appearance by PostSecret founder Frank Warren here in Buffalo last night, I've decided to...

Caption contest: finally, wasted neck space gets put to good useFiled under: Cellphones We've seen some creative ways to keep your phone near your face without all the trouble and wasted energy of using your arms, but designer Francesca Lanzavecchia's neck brace concepts might just take the cake. Head mobility always seemed a little overrated to us, anyway.[Via textually.org]Chris: "Trapped in a prison of the future. Betrayed by a woman of his past. Frank Warren is wired to explode."Josh T: "After his surgery for throat cancer, all of Joey's friends agreed his new cigarette storage location was in poor taste."Joseph: "If this photo doesn't scream 'insurance fraud,' I don't know...

PostSecret SkepticismI've written about PostSecret previously, and I still am a regular reader. I saw this interesting old post by althouse about PostSecret. Like me, the commentators are generally skeptical of the secrets' authenticity despite the aesthetic success of the publisher's presentation. What is exceptionally interesting about the post is how utterly defensive the publisher, Frank Warren, is when the authenticity is challenged. Personally, I am fairly confident the PostSecret content arrives in Warren's mailbox unsolicited. What is an interesting and convenient circumstance is that because they are secrets, the publisher is obligated to do exactly zero due diligence. He is forced...

But most of what I have learned has come from my own mistakes. One of my earliest mistakes...
