The PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV, which will be downloadable via Steam, comes out on Wednesday. The reviews embargo, however, must have lifted overnight in Europe as magazines there already have posted their reviews online. EuroGamer—the review written by one of the Rock, Paper, Shotgun gents—gives it a 9/10, calling the game groundbreaking and so on while acknowledging that it isn’t perfect. The lack of a mid-mission checkpoint feature is the main annoyance and big reason why they didn’t give it a 10/10. A fair point, I might add: oh, the number of expletives I’ve strung together...
Those guys over at coolsmartphone posted a few items of late from xda-developers.com, on having the panels from Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X1 run from a HTC Touch HD. You may or may not be already aware the X1 was designed by HTC for Sony Ericsson and almost runs the same chipset and hardware. So a feat of this nature isn’t all that ground breaking really, but is still quite nifty. Already been seen around for a while now is the footage of the HTC TouchFLO 3D UI running on the Xperia X1, which we’ve actually seen firsthand too. Now...
Back in Utah in the summer of 2005 two gents, bored with the look of standard chunkier shoes (i.e. Vans, Chucks, etc.) and looking for something slimmer, lighter weight and just a bit different than what was readily available, decided to start a little company called Zuriick. The Ake was their first design, in which they chose bright colors and a contrasting purple sole to set them apart from anything else being done at that time. That first foray has now expanded into a full line of stylish and affordable men's and women's footwear that yesterday saw the launch of...
We're pretty sure that the woman driving the '87 Sundance up the Stade Olympique in Montreal is not Céline Dion- though all the YouTubers swear it's her- but this ad for the '91 Dodge Colt does appear to feature Quebec's most famous daughter. First she dances with some scurrilous-looking gents, then leaves a swath of destruction behind her rebadged Mitsubishi, which is powerful enough to melt parking meters....
Street Fighter IV will come out in Japan in February. Capcom said as much earlier today at an event over there—“over there” being Japan and “Capcom” being the fine gents who developed the game. No, we don’t know exactly what date it comes out, nor do we know the North American release date. An animated (“anime”) movie is slated to appear with the first few copies of the game. Also, remember that Suer Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is scheduled to come out this month on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. That should hold us over till...
Levi's artsy, monochrome Cutwater campaign celebrates the "average woman," comfortable with herself and her Levi's jeans. Meanwhile, the brand's sophomoric EVB-produced viral effort urges the gruffer sex to "Unbutton your beast," as if we needed the added provocation. My first thought: Oh, those denim jerks, they're trying to have it both ways. My revised opinion: Those button-fly geniuses, they're trying to have it both ways—and succeeding! Both campaigns are perfectly tailored (ha!) to their respective audiences: empowering and sympathetic for the ladies, disposable and "naughty" for the gents. The ads aimed at women are cinematic, for the sex that...
Here we are at the end of the 2008 Paris Motor Show with all of these extra images again in our camera. Unfortunately, we can't use them because those hard working booth professionals (we decided to use the local vernacular spoken by gents in hushed and reverent tones, "les hôtesses") keep walking in front of the production cars and concepts. We don't feel too bad because we know they're doing their job of informing inquisitive journalists of the merits of the vehicles and demonstrating features too complicated for the journos to figure out. While we normally would just toss these...
The fine gents over at Kotaku have listed all of the DS Lite and newly announced DSi specs in a one-on-one showdown. We see all of the expected small upgrades—the screens are a tiny bit bigger, the case ever so slightly longer and thinner. But the big surprise? Battery life bites it big time. On low brightness, the DS Lite was rated at 15-19 hours of life. The DSi gets only 9-14 in the same conditions. That's a loss of 5-6 hours. Higher brightnesses show less battery loss for the DSi, ranging from 1-5 hours less on "high brightness" and...
In the teeth of a previous housing recession, a real estate agent looked me dead in the eye and said: "You have to buy now. Time is running out." Not true. It took a little longer, but my wife and I ended up buying the right house, although not from that agent. Building a false sense of urgency is a bad salesperson's favorite tactic. It's the "get it now, while they last" theory of business and those who fall for it usually end up getting burned. That's why it's proper and just for lawmakers to take some time evaluating the...
Suunto watches are fun. This latest wrist-computer gizmo improves on the companies X9i GPS watch with even stronger GPS tech. Plus, the company throws in an altimeter, barometer, digital compass, thermometer, stopwatch and kitchen sink functions. Back to that GPS stuff though. “After converting your Suunto X10 logs with Suunto Track Exporter, you can share your adventures with anyone who uses Google Earth,” explains Suunto Outdoor Product Manager Petteri Hernelahti. “You can save your tracks in Google Earth, and then email them to friends or family, or post them on a website or blog for downloading.“ How handy is...
You don’t need a $40,000 Chevy Volt to be part of the green crowd. Just convert your current vehicle from gasoline to electric. It might cost you more than the car is worth, but you won’t be sending your bucks overseas. CNN is showcasing two fellas that did just that. One with a Honda Civic del Sol and the other with a Chevy S-10. Both are now electric and both were converted by their handy owners. The gents said it wasn’t that hard and took about four months to complete. The S-10 cost $12k in upgrades and can now run 40 miles on a...
Canon has a new entry level dSLR, possibly with your name on it. The EOS Rebel XS, aka the 1000D, will ship in August for $699. To be fair, $700 for an SLR, especially if you pretend to be “into” photography like Peter and Devin and I, is a decent price. The Rebel XS has a 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor and a 2.5-inch LCD. The step up from this, the Rebel XSi, has a 12.2-megapixel sensor and 3.0-inch LCD. Don’t forget Live View! So now you ask yourself, is $200 worth a half inch of LCD and a slightly larger...
