NASA's Next Mars Mission Gets Delayed Until 2011 [Mars Science Laboratory]Looks like Mars Phoenix (or Mars Phoenix's ghost) will have to wait another two years for a new companion—the Mars Science Laboratory, originally planned for a launch next year, has been delayed until 2011. It goes to show that the economy's bad in space, too. But aside from budgetary overages, the MSL is one of the most advanced crafts ever to shoot for the red planet. It will be able to redirect its course late into the landing phase, and will actually touch down on a tether lowered from a hovering descent stage. On board will be the biggest science...

Visual Hallucinations Are a Normal Grief ReactionHugh Pickens writes "Vaughn Bell has written an interesting essay at Scientific American about grief hallucinations. This phenomenon is a normal reaction to bereavement that is rarely discussed, although researchers now know that hallucinations are more likely during times of stress. Mourning seems to be a time when hallucinations are particularly common, to the point where feeling the presence of the deceased is the norm rather than the exception. A study by Agneta Grimby at the University of Goteborg found that over 80 percent of elderly people experience hallucinations associated with their dead partner one month after bereavement, as if...

PROOF: Nicole Kidman’s Baby Is Real and ExistsRemember about a year ago, when it seemed that Nicole Kidman was pregnant with a ghost bump for somewhere around 13 to 15 months? Well, when we heard she "delivered" the "baby", it's safe to say we were skeptical. But if these photos are to be believed, Nicole Kidman really and truly had a baby! A little girl named Sunday Rose. Aww. Here's Nicole struggling through layers of face poison to kiss her child: Is it sad to say she has more wrinkles than her mother? Not only isn't it sad, it's joyous. It goes without saying, Team Suri 4VR....

Truly Comcastic service, for real this time We’ve made it a sort of hobby to post our Comcast experiences here at CG, more often than not because they’ve been terribletastic and we needed to be angry publicly for our own satisfaction. This time however it’s quite a different case so read on if you’d like to hear that rarest of tales: a tale of good customer service. Last night I was doing some heavy downloading and uploading (as one does) and after about midnight the whole thing cut out completely. I tried the usual remedies and eventually went to bed thinking they were finally onto me,...

Anna Nicole Smith's Ghost Sex Link: http://www.askmen.com/celebs/entertai... Equally eerie as it is hilarious (ok, it's not that eerie), an old story details Anna Nicole Smith's claim that a ghost would repeatedly “climb up [her] leg,” and they'd have “amazing” sex. Initially, she thought she was having sex with her boyfriend until she realized it was a ghost. Unless her boyfriend had a thing for white burkas. (Eternal thanks to Gabe!) Asus Touts New No-Cost Advance RMA ProgramTroubleshooting a dead motherboard can be enough of a pain in the backside all on its own, but once you've reached the conclusion that your board has given up the ghost, the prospect of a lengthy wait for a replacement only adds insult to injury. Asus seeks to alleviate this frustration with its new Asus Premium Service (APS) program, which offers eligible motherboard owners the option of having a replacement board cross-shipped free of charge."ASUS offers today’s discerning motherboard customer the widest range of choice for enthusiast platforms,” said Sales Director Timothy Lin of ASUS North America. “By combining the...

ABC to focus group: you cool with Izzie and Denny falling in love?Filed under: Industry, Grey's Anatomy, Casting, Reality-FreeApparently ABC is weirded out by Izzie having sex with a ghost too. At the very least, they certainly are curious. According to EW, the alphabet network has started testing audiences with a potential Grey's Anatomy love story between Izzie and the very, very, very not alive Denny Duquette. Now I know focus groups aren't cheap and since it's Thanksgiving Day, I'm in a very giving mood. So if anyone from ABC is reading this - let me save you some money: This story BLOWS.Continue reading ABC to focus group: you cool with Izzie...

BlahblahFish takes your English text and translates it into another language, then translates it back into English. The results can be pretty strange. I used the phrase “The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Japanese: It heats heart truly and [re] physical weakness does. Italian: The spirit is arranged, but the meat is weak person. Greek: The spirit is willing, but the flesh is impossible. Spanish: The alcohol is prepared, but the meat is weak. Korean: The spirit puts out the flag and does, the flesh omits but. Chinese: Having more desire than energy. Croatian: sprite had like...

Who Left A Piano In The Middle Of The Woods?Someone left a beautiful, tuned Baldwin piano and its bench in the middle of the woods in Harwich, Massachusetts. Police are trying to figure it out, because absolutely absolutely nothing else is going on in Harwich these days. So far, they have no clues. Well, I'm not a trained investigator, but I do have a few guesses. Who could have left this piano in the middle of the woods? Here are some suggestions: LOCAL ARTIST MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEYWhen questioned, he could not rule out the possibility that he was in Harwich playing music in the middle of the woods last weekend....

Happily Ever Over Happily Ever Over is an epic tale that explains a lot of what you you never understood about holidays. An economic crisis among the magical creatures leads to crime and adventure, involving the Pied Piper who lives in his extermination van after his wife left him, an investigator who loves a mysterious ghost, and Santa Claus as you’ve never seen him -a time-traveling, whip-cracking descendant of grizzly bears! It’s a long story, but one you’ll never forget. Written and illustrated by C Merry, first published in 2003 as a gift to her friends. Link -Thanks, C Merry!...

Sony Ericsson Paris gets reviewed on film despite being killed pre-production Call it the Paris, call it the P5 or call it the ghost of Sony Ericsson past - the bottom line is that this handset will likely never see the light of day. Those of you Sony Ericsson or UIQ die-hards out there will still be interested what we’ve got here though. We’re not sure who M. Kurowski is but he managed to get his hands on a Paris prototype and gave it some serious face time in a two-part video review for the ages. We have to say, this guy has got to be one of our favorite...

Post-pixelWhere did the pixels go? Not so long ago, you couldn't look at type on a computer without seeing the ghost of the screen's pixel grid behind it. But as screen resolutions have improved (thank you, Moore's Law), pixels have become at once far more plentiful and far less visible. Indeed, the pixel has all but disappeared. Look hard at what you're reading: Can you see one? Jason Kottke points to a fascinating little essay on the death of the pixel by type designer Jonathan Hoefler. Digital designers long struggled with the tension between graceful letterforms and the clumsy, pointillist......

World's First Plug-In Electric Car On Sale Next Month -- in China As the ghost of GM's assassinated electric car haunts a fearful Detroit, another boogeyman is waiting in the wings: the world's first mass-produced plug-in hybrid electric car, being readied for its December release -- in China. BYD, a company that first made its reputation as the world's largest maker of cell phone batteries, has announced it will release the F3DM hybrid sedan on December 15. And BYD says it plans to release a version of the car in the US and Europe in 2010 or 2011, just when GM plans to begin selling its own plug-i......
