People's Music Store Lets Anyone Sell Music Have you ever wanted to be a snarky record store clerk like the ones in High Fidelity, recommending the choicest cuts to a grateful and adoring public? People's Music Store lets you set up your own online storefront to sell up to 50 DRM-free albums from a decent range of high-quality electronica, rock and other music. The store won't earn you money, but it could earn you respect, plus ability to download free music from other people's stores. People's Music Store was founded by Ged Day, who launched Bleep.com for Warp Records -- "the first" DRM free 320 Kbps...

Software updates: Live Mesh Mobile, Kinoma PlayMicrosoft has pushed out an update for its Live Mesh suite, including Live Mesh for Mobile (as well as the Windows and Mac desktop clients). Nothing major to talk about, but it’s worth grabbing. The Fixes: Server-side performance and reliability enhancements. Minor usability improvements. You’ll be informed of the update as soon as you log in to Live Mesh Mobile on your phone. Kinoma Play: We could be accused of overdoing it on the Kinoma Play updates, and maybe we are. But that’s how impressed we are with the frequency and manner in which they’re being rolled out. And there’s...

Blogger Roadmap In Audio FormatI just got word from Gideon Shalwick from Become A Blogger that they’ve just released the audio version of their, now slightly famous, Roadmap To Become A Blogger. Apparently, this report has already been downloaded 6,746 times, and it’s not even been two days yet! That’s awesome. It looks like the report has gone viral, so people must really be loving the information inside it. One of my own commenters on this blog (Anthony Lawrence) even commented: You know, I usually expect that kind of thing to be a useless teaser hawking something else (which often isn’t anything of value...

Ever Felt Like Giving Up Blogging?Unfortunately blogging is not always fun. Things go wrong, people attack you for no good reason, and there are hackers and comment spammers to deal with too. But if we want to get the fun and rewards out of blogging, sometimes we need to ride over a few speed bumps along the way. Dealing with these issues is part of blogging. Sticking at it is the number one factor that splits the “ex-blogger” from the successful blogger. When things go wrong,  or when people get nasty, it is easy to pack it all in and move on to do something...

Vid Of The Day: Bad Days On TVI've posted a lot of these segments before on their own, but it's funny to see all this crap strung together in a montage. You know what I'd love to do? Beat Bill O'Reilly to a bloody, mewling pulp. Maybe someday I'll get the chance.Good stuff from TheMovieGuru and Bubbasmom. link...

If you hold a chicken and move it around, it'll keep its head in the same place, as if it is bolted to the spot. The good stuff happens about 35 seconds into the video. (via Laughing Squid)...

Fair Warning: Eddie Van Halen Needs to Get His Drink OnRemember when Van Halen had to postpone their reunion tour last year because Eddie went into rehab? Here’s what he said at the time, according to E!: “I have always and will always feel a responsibility to give you my best. At the moment I do not feel that I can give you my best,” Van Halen wrote. “That’s why I have decided to enter a rehabilitation facility to work on myself, so that in the future I can deliver the 110 percent that I feel I owe you and want to give you…” While Van Halen didn’t specify what...

Waistband Stretcher Only Delays the Inevitable Mumu Purchase in Your Future [Wardrobe Malfunction]While many people use the shopping bonanza Black Friday (now deadly, btw) to secure new clothes as gifts for loved ones, I use it as an excuse to buy new pants because my old ones don't fit after Thanksgiving dinner. Thankfully, I won't have to do that anymore, because the Waistband Stretcher removes that task and all other vestiges of personal accountability from the equation forever. The $30 device slips into a pair of jeans or slacks and does as advertised. It stretches them out to a more pleasing and comfortable size 40, or whatever your waistline might be after...

$168,000 Harion speaker set crafted from heat-resistant glass, fairy dust We're pretty sharp on the fairy dust market, and while it no doubt goes for a premium in certain parts of the world, there's still a serious surcharge being added in here for transparency. Japan's own Hario is catering yet again to the affluent among us with its Harion speaker set, which boasts a subwoofer, two mid-range drivers and a pair of acrylic tweeters -- all encased in heat-resistant glass. Of course, the company is no stranger to pumping out exclusive glass-based kit and charging a wad for it, as this particular package will run customers a staggering 16...

We all know that a picture paints a thousand words. So, if you were to create a short on-line presentation that dealt with an important issue such as poverty and were trying to not only inform the viewer but also to make a profound emotional connection, it would make sense to use images of the problem — photographs of the actual people in need of help. You need words to inform and express much of the story, but you need pictures to really capture people's attention and make the message stick, right? Not necessarily. Kinetic type, or animated or...

Handbrake 0.93My favorite DVD ripper, Handbrake, has just been updated to version 0.9.3, and this time around there are a number of useful new features as well as a nice UI update. Some of the better updates this time include: Universal input HandBrake is no longer limited to DVDs: it will now accept practically any type of video as a source. This massive enhancement was achieved by tapping into the power of libavcodec and libavformat from the FFmpeg project. Video quality The x264 project has really come into its own this year, and HandBrake 0.9.3 integrates the latest improvements to the...

some great quotes from todayI’m just going to post some stuff I found on the web and I really like.  Here goes. 1. Aza Raskin has a good overview of how people use the web in China.  There’s a service over there called QQ that started with chat and has morphed into everything.  About that: Whereas chat is fundamentally about people with information tacked on, the Web is fundamentally about information with people tacked on. True enough.  Also about status in the community: What QQ does to incentive its community is rather weird. The normal things they do is give contributors special VIP standing...

The Blogosphere is Not Dead. So What’s Really Happening?Who Killed The Blogosphere? Thats the title of a new piece by Nicholas Carr that examines the seeming decline in the number of actively updated blogs since Technorati started keeping statistics in 2002: Technorati has identified 133 million blogs since it started indexing them in 2002. But at least 94 percent of them have gone dormant, the company reports in its most recent “state of the blogosphere” study. Only 7.4 million blogs had any postings in the last 120 days, and only 1.5 million had any postings in the last seven days. 133 million blogs? That’s the experimental phase. New...
