The Android Dev Phone 1, a totally unlocked G1, is available to "developers" for only $399 after paying a small setup fee. Just register as a developer over at the Android Market and the phone is yours. Registration as a developer at the Market costs $25, but after that, you're eligible for the cheap, unlocked goodness. The Android Dev Phone 1 is fully compatible with Android 1.0, and being able to swap out the SIM card effectively breaks the yoke of T-Mobile's not-so-widespread service. It'll also let you flash custom Android builds that work with the newly unlocked bootloader. The...
Filed under: Industry, Misc, Blu-ray, Other formats, Players, Sony, AppleBack in February, we saw NetBlender blend in Blu-ray support to its DoStudio authoring software. Now, version 1.6 is packing even more BD-related goodness, and it's BD Touch in particular that we're intrigued by. The latest flavor of DoStudio includes expanded capabilities such as Slideshows, Dolby TrueHD support, and BD Touch integration, not to mention a number of workflow enhancements including copy / paste, enhanced asset validation, printable reports, etc. As for BD Touch, this software now gives production outfits (or just entrepreneurial individuals) the ability to bake in support for...

Don’t get too excited, Trust Fund kiddies. This massive display probably will not be available for your purchase but my goodness, wouldn’t GOW2 be sweet on it. The 180-inch 3D LED video wall is destined for commercial use considering four of these can be connected together to make a gigantic 360-inch screen. LEDs make up each pixel and are arranged at a pitch of 6mm. Even though this display is an LED-based system, LCD 3D source material can be used which should make for some cheap parlor tricks, but sweet advertising nether the less....
We’ve been messing with our T-Mobile G1 for a few days now, in preparation for a full review, but we are confident enough in the device to list it here in our Holiday Gift Guide. The T-Mobile G1 is the first phone on the market that features Google’s Android OS. Along with the Google love, the G1 features 3G speeds, a physical QWERTY keyboard, and a 3 megapixel camera. The software itself features all the goodness you’d expect from Google, meaning integration with Gmail, Google Docs, YouTube, and Google Maps with the super-cool Street View Compass mode. There’s also a...
Everything about Dubai amuses me -- it's like Las Vegas times a million times ridiculous Arab oil wealth and money flaunting times fake futuristic sci-fi buildings times whatever else. So when I saw a Photoset called "National Festival Day in Dubai", I was expecting to see a bunch of billionaires dousing one another with Cristal, but was instead treated to the following pictures that look more like a series of random images during a hallucination sequence in a David Lynch film, making me love Dubai even more. I really want to attend this festival next year: More Dubai-ey goodness, after...
Either my glasses need another cleaning or the lines keep blurring between cloud, desktop and browser. My latest bout with myopia comes from the new Gmail gadget supported on Google Desktop for Windows. All of the Gmail goodness is in there: message starring, keyboard shortcuts and contact auto-completion. There are plenty of Gmail gadgets for Microsoft Windows Vista, so this might be more appealing to Windows XP users. Do we have any Google Desktop for Windows users out there? After a brief stint with Google Desktop, I uninstalled it as I was on a "lean and mean" kick and...
Nokia seems to launch a phone a day and in keeping with the 5800 ExpressMusic touchscreen meme they have announced the N97. The N97 brings the full touchscreen to the N-series and to keep things lively Nokia has put an innovative sliding popup QWERTY keyboard for the typing faithful. Nokia is aiming this at the Facebook crowd and touting tight integration with that social network. The specs of the N97 are impressive starting with a ridiculous 32 GB of onboard memory that can be augmented by a 16 GB memory card. That's a huge 48 GB of available user...
Filed under: OpEd, Video, Celebrities, Reality-FreeIf you are anything like me, then you have been dying to see the second season of Flight of the Conchords since the last credits rolled. I was starting to doubt my ability to make it until January, when Bret and Jemaine officially return to HBO, so thank goodness for the lovely folks at FunnyOrDie.com.The website will be premiering FotC's first episode on Wednesday, December 17th at 12:00 p.m. EST, just in time to keep me from doing something terribly illegal and breaking and entering some place to hunt down the new episodes myself. Make...
We’ve been big fans of Slacker since we saw it earlier this year at CES. Now, we were big fans of the Slacker Internet radio service, but that meant you had to keep Slacker in your browser. With the Slacker G2, all that Internet radio goodness is now portable. So, why the Slacker G2 over a regular MP3 player? Well, first off, the owner doesn’t have to pay for the music. You don’t even have to use a computer to transfer music to the device, as that can all be done with the devices itself. It connects to the...
From A Hamburger Today Over the weekend, while I was trying not to work, we at A Hamburger Today received this email from longtime reader and frequent commenter Phauxtoe: Hey, I got a bone to pick with you guys. Today (Friday) I stopped at Burger King to get a road coffee (nothing else). I saw an ad the menu for "BURGER SHOTS," with and without cheese.I guess they have moved into the slider market. Here is the problem: I read your site everyday or so—why do I have to hear about this on the streets? Thanks but no thanks, Phauxtoe Trying my...

As of today, you have a new weapon against telemarketers. Federal Trade Commission rules that just took effect say that telemarketing calls that are recorded in advance -- also known as robocalls -- from businesses or charities must include ways to opt out of future calls. You're already supposed to be protected from unsolicited commercial calls if you're on the national Do Not Call registry, but calls from businesses with which you have a relationship (you've bought something from them, inquired about their products or services, etc.) were permitted. Also, calls from legitimate charities were allowed. They still are....
