Yoda Christmas lights to rock your geek treeThese Yoda Christmas Lights are awesome. Hang them on your tree, in your cubicle, over your bed, on your patio, hell decorate your fake lightsaber. This string of Jedi Master Christmas lights is available just in time for the holidays. Only $29.95 for 10 light-up Yodas on a 10-foot UL listed cord. The only way it gets better is if they talked. “Naughty or nice be you?” “Judge me by my Christmas lights do you?” Your tree will suddenly be filled with ancient Jedi wisdom. And just like the movies, none of these 10 light up Yodas will tell you...

YouTube lets you turn videos into greeting cards On Friday YouTube unveiled a new feature for the holidays that lets users create hosted video cards to send to friends and family. Users can select this option from any YouTube video, or from a special page that houses selected community videos and links to a user's own clips. There's also an option to make a personalized greeting straight from a connected Web cam. When finished picking the video there are a handful of themes that house the video player, along with space to add up to 230 characters of text, both of which can be sent up to...

Gridlock for the Auto Bailout; Trouble for 'Candidate 5' — By Ben Pershing On top of all the ills currently plaguing Detroit and the auto industry, you can add bad political timing, as the bailout is percolating through the system just as congressional Republicans a) feel that they owe President Bush nothing, and b) desperately want to distinguish themselves from the ruling Democrats. The result is c) gridlock, as the bailout package cleared the House comfortably last night but faces a much rockier road in the Senate. Maybe this is just standard practice, as Congress often appears hopelessly stuck right before a breakthough allows them to go home for the...

Windows Mobile Barcode ScannerA few years ago a barcode scanner application popped up for the Treo 650. It was a fairly basic program that allowed you to use the camera of the Treo 650 to photograph barcodes and would copy the code to a clipboard. But that was where it ended, and I always wished it could do more like help me scan and organize all my CDs, or something like that. Now there's a similar app for Windows Mobile called Barcorama and it takes a slightly different approach. With Barcorama you take a photo of a barcode and the app will open your...

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians gets the Mystery Science 3000 treatment from Cinematic Titanic — Cinematic Titanic -- the creator-driven successor to the fantastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 -- has a new installment just in time for the holidays: this month, the guys kick the crap out of "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" (which has plenty of crap to kick!). For those of you who haven't been following this excellent series, the premise is simple: the five Cinematic Titanic comics are present in silhouette, superimposed over the picture, coming up with snappy jokes every second or so. I average about two belly laughs a minute, and about ten times more chuckles. The Cinematic Titanic...

Holiday Gift Guide Flashback: A Dark Lord Christmas I was nine years old and I was a huge Star Wars fan. I was looking forward to Christmas like every kid and I hoped to get a ton of Star Wars stuff.  Christmas morning finally came and back then I would try to sneak out of bed at four or five in the morning so I could start playing.  Sometimes I would get caught and I was told to go back to bed, but I always came out later after the coast was clear. That Christmas I woke up early and quickly ran to the living room to...

Video makers gift guide - Video solutions, tutorials, on-the-go and more... Video technology sure has come a long way in the past 30 years. In the early days the first video recorders used by TV production crews were large quad decks about the size of refrigerator lying on its back and recorded video onto 2-inch wide videotape. Now you can easily find camcorders that fit in your pocket and even shoot high-definition video. This holiday season millions of people will give and receive some form of video, whether it's a LCD TV, video game system, camcorder or other device. Cost To Drive: A Simple Web Tool for Budgeting Road TripsAre you making a long road trip for the holidays? Curious about how much it’s going to cost you? Cost To Drive can help. When Kris and I took our short vacation in early October, I did something a little different. Though I’ve never been a budget guy, I set a budget for the trip. I knew how much I wanted to spend before I left. As part of my planning, I needed to find out how far we were going to drive, how long it was going to take us (I didn’t want to miss the ferry), and how...

Stella Artois feels tipsy with holiday cheer This visually appealing Stella Artois holiday mircosite from Lowe and Psyop tells the tale of a master paper-cut craftsman who creates a magical wintry world. I always wanted to be a master paper-cut craftsman, but I flunked folding, and kept poking myself with the scissors. At first, my reaction to the campaign was: too bad such an evocative seasonal effort is just meant to sell beer. But it turns out Stella was originally brewed in the 14th century to celebrate the holidays, so I guess that historical tie-in makes it OK. The site lets visitors sends "stars" to friends,...
