Face Of The Day A policeman speaks into his phone as Indians gather for a peace rally in order to pay homage to those slain by the militants during the recent terror attacks in the city at the Gateway of India in Mumbai on December 3, 2008. Lindsay Lohan can’t poke you on Facebook, airs grievances on MySpace Lindsay Lohan, the Hollywood actress and drama magnet, is having yet another painful identity crisis — of the Facebook kind. Her Facebook account has been temporarily disabled, and she ironically chose to rant about the traumatizing experience on her MySpace blog. Her stream-of-unconsciousness style post, titled “Upset with Facebook,” claims that her Facebook profile was hacked repeatedly, and complains that Facebook administrators shut down her profile as an impostor account while scads of fake Lindsay Lohans are free to frolic on the site. Tragic. And why would that be? Lohan has the answer, with a lack of capitalization that...

Hijo de Puta Keychain Makes Me Teary With Nostalgia [Insults Keyring]Amigos de Gizmodo, here's a must-have gadget for any tourists wanting to cause a lasting sensation in Spanish-speaking countries: a keychain that emits useful expressions that will open doors everywhere you go. With the Palabra Graciosa (Gracious Word) keyring, you will not need to learn Spanish. Capable of saying "Hijo de Puta", "Comemierda", "Cabrón" and "Maricón" at the push of a button, this will work to start conversations, call friends, order a beer, express your love, and even defend yourself in any civil debate. I know, because I'm from Spain and three out of every four words I say are...

Moeskine.com - Free Online NotebooksWhat it doesAre you looking for a way to treasure your most valued memories on the Net? I apologize in advance — this post is really just some links that I came across that have to do with the media, the “data-fication” of journalism, and community. Maybe when I have more time I will try to find the connections that pull these things together, but until then I will just present them as they are, in part to help myself remember and think about them: – The Los Angeles Times has a “data desk,” which includes links to all of their data-driven projects (link via Kottke.org, who found it via Ben Fry’s blog, who got it from...

Kisai Denshoku: Shinjuku hot nights The Kisai Denshoku is an homage to the lights and skyline of Shinjuku but personally I think this watch by Tokyoflash looks more like a little hibachi waiting for some shrimp and a nice flank of Kobe beef. The Denshoku costs $247.72 and is available in white or black. The watch shows the time in three stages. You press the button and it shows the hours, ten minutes, and then the single minutes. You can also activate animation mode that gives a Blade Runner-esque sense of style to your next board meeting. Your Boss: So we’ve got to really...

It’s not the famous Web 3.0 the semantic crowd has been lobbying for for years. It’s not the next big thing or even the next little thing, or whatever the Times touted when it went nuts for micromessaging today. It’s Web 2.2, and it stands for incremental improvements that, oh by the way, add up to a big leap. I’m branding this as an homage to the latest iPhone OS 2.2 upgrade, which surfaced a few days ago with limited fanfare centering mostly around new walking and public transportation views in Maps and improved memory and stability. But the new...

British photographer Robbie Cooper used stills from the video taken by his RED camera to show that look of total concentration achieved by kids as they play some particularly absorbing video games, including Grand Theft Auto IV and Call of Duty 4. Cooper had the kids look at a reflection of the game in a plane of glass, and put his camera behind the glass so the kids wouldn't be self-conscious about the giant fancy camera pointed right in their faces. This technique is evidently Cooper's homage to Errol Morris' "Interrotron" that the filmmaker used for many of his documentaries....

MechRC is here to dance, not enslave Say what you want about robots being our future overlords and all that, but we think they're really just here to boogie. I mean, if all you wanted to do was get your groove on but some engineer kept programming you to scare prisoners or little children, you might go looking for a little payback too, right? Thankfully there's MechRC, a 17-servo kit newly available in the Americas that, despite his menacing visage, should do wonders to soothe human-robot relations through a vast array of funky moves. Thanks to what looks to be some easy to use (though sadly...

Smallville: BrideFiled under: Smallville, Episode Reviews, Reality-Free (S08E10) In an episode that started with an homage to Cloverfield, we finally get a look at Doomsday. Not surprisingly, he looks like he did in the comic books. I thought they were going to use CGI to create the character, but obviously, that was cost-prohibitive (we did get a nice CGI of the bones growing out of Bloome's hand). They settled for a rubber suit and make-up, a la Michael Chiklis in the Fantastic Four movies.Only someone from Smallville would find it romantic to get married in the Kent barn. It did probably...

Some waterslides are more fun than others With a Barclaycard, you zip through life with ease. There you are at the library, picking up some DVDs—then suddenly you're at the supermarket, snagging a banana. At least, this is what BBH London spent a load of money trying to convey in the commercial above. (See the making-of video here.) But jetting around on a waterslide isn't that easy—you never know where you'll end up. This is the theme of the cheeky homage below for U.K. glasses retailer Specsavers. Viciously brandjacked in a month—that's what you get for sending a gawky British actor around Rio in a tube....

John Naughton: When Google sneezes, the whole world catches a coldENQUIRE WITHIN UPON EVERYTHING was the title of one of the bestselling books of the Victorian era. First published by Houlston & Sons of Paternoster Square in London and endlessly reprinted (it went to 113 editions), it set out to be an encyclopedia of information on important matters such as etiquette, parlour games, cake recipes, laundry tips, holiday preparation and first aid. It told you how to plan a dinner party, cure a headache, make a will and address a duke. According to Wikipedia, it sold more than a million and a half copies. (It's now available for free from...

Afternoon Awwwww… Burn*E, Wall*E from a diff’t viewPixar’s created a new short featuring Burn-E a welding robot for it’s DVD/Blu-ray release of Wall*E. It sort of tells the story of this robot during the same time period of Wall*E so you get a condensed what happened in the movie view during these 7.5 minutes. He’s pretty cute, I mostly like it because of what looks like an homage to the old Battlestar Galactica Viper launch sequences. Oh and the little scene after the credits. (via, via) All in all, I wanted it to be better, know? But it was still pretty good....

HillSec?Those trying to game out the odds of Hillary Clinton becoming Barack Obama's Secretary of State would do well to wonder what other possible explanation there is for her visit to Chicago yesterday. ABC News reports that the reason was "private business." NBC News reports that the reason was "personal business." To which the logical response is: What "private" and "personal" matters do Clinton and Obama have to discuss at exactly this moment in time, what with Obamaland consumed with the enormous task of building a new government? School recomendations for Sasha and Malia? Luckily this is one of those...

Saab 9-3 2.0T Special Edition Convertible To Drop Top At LA Auto Show [Saab 9-3 Special Edition Convertible]All you haters who think GM's showing up with nothing at next week's LA Auto Show — get ready to eat your words. The boys and girls from Trollhattan will celebrate 25 years of quirky Swedish open air driving with the Saab 9-3 2.0T Special Edition Convertible. The new Saab convertible, pays homage to the first Saab convertible, which debuted at the 1983 Frankfurt Motor Show. If it looks familiar, maybe it's because this "special edition" is quite similar to the Saab 9-3 Convertible Yellow Edition revealed earlier this year. In fact, both sport the same 2.0-liter turbo, 17-inch five-spoke...
