How in the hell does Honda expect people to choose the Insight over the Prius if they can’t tell the difference between the things? Honestly, it looks like the grille and headlights are the only difference between these two eco-cars. Not only that, but they’re similarly spec’ed and get identical mileage. Are they trying to pull something over on us here? And didn’t I just watch a Top Gear where they all got above 70mpg with diesels? People are getting 40mpg with their Minis. With engineering and design innovation like this, these hybrids will probably sell about as well...
Wisconsin truckers and dairy farmers have come together to attempt to boost winter safety numbers by creating a cheesy concoction combining common road salt and a byproduct of the cheese production process. What's the result? The salt sticks to the road, meaning your car does too. An added bonus is the decreased corrosion with this new mix; your Honda hatchback will live forever! We shudder to think what those roadways will smell like come spring. [CNN]...
NEW YORK — U.S. auto sales plunged 37 percent in November to their worst level in more than 26 years, dashing expectations that this dismal year for vehicle demand had found a bottom, and adding more ammunition to the Detroit automakers' case for a congressional lifeline. Every major automaker reported a year-over-year sales decline of more than 30 percent on Tuesday. The Detroit carmakers were among the worst hit, with GM's U.S. sales falling 41 percent and Chrysler LLC's dropping 47 percent. Their overseas rivals posted abysmal results as well. Toyota's sales tumbled 34 percent, while Nissan's dropped 42 percent...
November car sales numbers are coming in and they’re what you expect them to be — horrendous. Ford is down 31% month-to-month with last year. Toyota fell even further at 33.9%. That's successful compared to GM's 41% drop. Even Honda is down 31.6%. What's going on? Carpocalypse Now is going on, that's what! The entire auto industry is screwed at the moment, and it's not just the U.S. automakers. Since Toyota’s and Honda’s numbers are in the crapper it points to what we've been saying from the start. This is less an issue of a problem with our dear domestic...
The Honda Ecological Drive System (HDAS) will be included with the 2009 Honda Insight. It will alert drivers to their driving habits through a color coded speedometer. For instance if you’re going along at a grandmotherly yet fuel efficient speed, the speedometer goes green, indicating that you are a responsible and possibly elderly driver. When you find yourself trying to outrun the fuzz at 90mph, the speedometer turns blue, indicating that you are most likely on COPS and should really slow down. Seems like red, yellow and green would have been better colors to use. It’s a great idea that...
Honda calls it the Ecological Drive Assist System (EDAS).......
So, you've a lead foot? What of it, right? Honda's hoping to make that bad little habit vanish by using the tried and true guilt trip method, or more specifically, the Ecological Drive Assist System. For starters, the technology's ECON Mode works with the CVT and engine to "support more fuel-efficient driving." The real kicker, however, is the color-based "guidance function" -- drive like a granny, your speedo lights up green, drive a little wilder, and things get a bit blue, and if you toss fuel economy to the wind and let 'er rip, expect a full-on blue screen...
Just as soon as we published our very unofficial "Carpocalypse Now" edition floor map for January's Detroit Auto Show we saw what our sources told us would happen — the Chinese automakers are movin' on up to the main floor. Today comes more bad news for the nation's premiere international auto show that's caused us to update the floor map again below the jump — Honda's decided to forgo a press conference. Honda spokesman Kurt Antonius, says since Honda won't "be doing 'traditional' product unveilings" at Detroit, there was no need to do anything other than drop the Honda Insight...
Yes folks that is one hot looking sports car but what is even hotter is that it is hydrogen powered. Ya I know it’s only a concept from Honda but still doesn’t it just make you drool. The FC Sport was unveiled last week at the L.A. Auto Show by Honda as part of their on-going research into hydrogen power for vehicles. The car was designed to show that the new green technologies can compete against any gas guzzler thrown at it. The ultimate goal for Honda with the FC Sport was to develop a lightweight vehicle...
This wasn't the design direction Honda was looking for with the Honda FC Sport concept. Move along....
Honda has developed an ecological drive assist system [JP], which will be used in a new Insight hybrid model that is scheduled for release next spring in Japan. The system is based on three different functions: - teaching (a display on the dashboard (”eco guide”) provides visual feedback about the level of fuel efficiency the driver achieves with his or her driving style in order to “teach” drivers how to drive efficiently) - ECON ( in the ECON mode, the system will take over control of the continuously variable transmission (CVT), the air-conditioning and the engine to reduce fuel...
It is not everyday that a well-known car manufacturer releases a concept vehicle that makes everyone’s head turn, but that’s exactly what Honda did last week at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The FC Sport is a hydrogen fuel cell three seater based on the same technology deployed in the FCX Clarity. Hardly your run-of-the mill hydrogen-powered vehicle, the FC Sport is a high-powered sports car designed to show that new greener technologies can compete against any fossil-fuel powered engine.
