Everyone's Pick For Yahoo CEORead up on what everyone is saying about who should or inevitibly will be Yahoo's next CEO. Then go vote for your choice or write-in a name in the comments. Writes BoomTown's Kara Swisher: "Obviously, the dream CEO for Yahoo is News Corp. President and COO Peter Chernin. Chernin has the right resume: Experienced at running large and complex organizations; savvier than most in media about the Internet; able to make the kinds of dramatic decisions needed; and, perhaps best of all, signaling-via the Los Angeles Times-just this past week that he was open to leaving the powerful media and...

Tech Employees' Political Contributions Dramatically Favor ObamaThat the San Francisco Bay Area, surrounding Silicon Valley, is left-leaning is no surprise. With rare exceptions, including eBay's Meg Whitman and former HP CEO Carly Fiorina, the majority of tech titans have traditionally leaned in favor of the Democratic Party. Recently, you also saw Google join the fray, joining Democrats in standing against Proposition 8, the California proposition that would restrict marriage to heterosexual couples. This comes despite Republicans' traditional strength in more affluent communities, which certainly describes parts of Silicon Valley. Looking a level deeper, by searching public political donation records, the gap between donations to Republican candidates...

Like #3 10/11/2008. I knew I liked the tech industry for a reason. :-) - Robert Scoble
But you'll find that telecom companies are shifting D from 50-50 or rightward tilt, as are the PACs associated with the various industry groups. The money goes where the power is. - Andrew Feinberg
Shout out: many executives are Republicans. They hate taxes and government intrusions into their businesses. I saw that close up at Microsoft too. In fact, the Deputy Press Secretary for Bush is a former Microsoftie. - Robert Scoble
@Robert and Andrew (per Andrew's comment on the post), the publicly available data covers the rank and file employees who donate upwards of $2,300, and doesn't capture corporate PACs, etc. And yes, the more you make and the higher up you go, there is a greater chance you're GOP. - Louis Gray
If every resident of the country were able to donate/vote/etc., I think fundraising would skew even more Obama-ward. - Prolific Programmer

MSNBC.com catches crucial footage of dancing Republicans [Politics]While waiting for former HP CEO Carly Fiorina to follow former eBay CEO Meg Whitman's speech with her own, MSNBC's Internet-only live video feed of the Republican National Convention caught this footage of Republican square-staters grooving to 1990s retro-pop hit "This Cat’s On A Hot Tin Roof" by The Brian Setzer Orchestra. The clip says more about what Obama supporters actually understand to be "change" than anything the candidate would ever dare articulate. Lost? Here's a hint: When Obama says he's "post-partisan, " supporters a decade or more short of AARP membership clearly hear "post-boomers."...

Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina to speak at convention tonight [Politics]A consolation prize for raising millions of dollars from their Fortune 500 rolodexes: Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman and former HP CEO Carly Fiorina will speak at the Republican National Convention tonight. Both also made Republican presidential candidate John McCain's list of 20 potential vice presidential candidates, aides told the New York Times. Like McCain's real first choice, Connecticut senator Joe Lieberman, neither Whitman nor Fiorina would have satisfied the conservative Christian base quite like McCain's eventual choice, the pro-life, pro-guns governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin. Also, neither looks quite so much like the adorable Liz Lemon, am I right?...
