Continuing on with our Best of Polls for the year, I must say that 2008 was a battleground year for cell phone superiority; usual nemeses iPhone and BlackBerry pulled out the big guns — Apple released the iPhone 3G and RIM responded to the challenge with the Bold and Storm. Not to be outdone, a little company named Google (maybe you've heard of it) launched its first phone, the G1, running on the Android platform, and made by HTC, which also launched the Touch Diamond. And just this week, Nokia came out, guns blazing, with its new N97. I know...
Filed under: Handsets, HTC, Rogers Wireless, Windows Mobile, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA Not that you can't snag an HTC Touch Diamond in Canada right now, but those loyal to Rogers are still waiting. As of this moment, we still can't locate the WinMo 6.1-based handset on the outfit's website, but MobileSyrup has it that the phone will soon be released for as low as $199.99 on a 3-year contract (with a minimum $45 voice / data plan). Oddly enough, we're also told that it'll be available with voice-only plans for $449.99 (3-year), $549.99 (1 to 2-year) and $599.99 (month-to-month), while a...
Compared to the ZzzPhone—a modern marvel of engineering and/or MSPaint—the i6-Goal is sort of boring: it's got no QWERTY, 3G, two-week battery, male enhancement powers, etc. It does, however, appear to be real. Announced by TechFaith Wireless and QIGI, two Chinese companies that very much seem to exist, the i6-Goal is a reassuringly modest accomplishment. The touchscreen phone is a relatively normal quad-band GSM phone, featuring a 2MP camera, GPS and an SD slot. The hardware actually looks quite similar to that of the HTC Touch, which perhaps not coincidentally can hackishly run Android. Notably, the handset will be the...
Filed under: RIM, Studies It's a shame AvianResearch and NPD can't meet up over a couple whiskey sours, figure out a game plan, and go forward with a unified tabulation method for their research -- but until that happens, we're probably going to have to deal with NPD claiming the iPhone 3G is the best-selling phone in the US and AvianResearch saying differently. Anyhoo, RIM's Curve joined forces across AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile to keep its coveted spot atop the list (and with the 8900 waiting in the wings, this can only mean good things for the Curve's future...
Today the $249.99 Christmas promotional pricing of the Telus Storm was sent into every major tech blog on the net from the same source — that’s why we didn’t bother to post it, in case you’re wondering– which left a lot of people wondering what Bell was up to in terms of pricing. Well, our favorite Bell ninja wrote in and told us the scoop. It turns out that Bell isn’t going to compete with Telus on the non-contract price as their Storm will sell for $50 more at $699.95. In terms of 3-year pricing, that’s where this whole...
While everybody else was out battling the crowds on Black Friday, we at BGR, well at least one of us, was anxiously awaiting the arrival of Verizon’s latest and greatest smartphone, the Samsung Omnia. We unboxed this beauty and took a few quick snapshots of the Verizon branded Omnia for you to drool over. So far, the Omnia does not disappoint. It is responsive, has an excellent camera interface, and that optical mouse is just awesome. Joining the Omnia in our repertoire of current phones is the HTC Touch Pro and the Samsung Saga making it a Verizon Wireless...
It seems like TELUS is feeling pressure to make up for the huge amounts of money it has been pouring into marketing the BlackBerry Storm over the past month or so. According to one of our sources, Telus is at least 97.38% set to sell the BlackBerry Storm on par with the high price they’re charging for the HTC Touch Pro. Starting at $649.99 with no contract and $599.99, $549.99, and $299.99 on contracts ranging from 1 to 3 years, Telus is sure to rake in at least a decent amount of cash just before the holidays. But is...
Once again, we really do have to hand it to Apple. We’re finding our inspiration today in tech writer Jeff Kirvin, who unleashes the following: As a Windows Mobile user, I’m consistently amazed that people take the iPhone seriously as a smartphone platform. Yes, my Treo has an old school 2003 interface and isn’t as shiny as newer smartphones (including “black slab” iPhone wannabes like the Blackberry Storm and even WM devices like the HTC Touch Diamond and Samsung Omnia), but I’m also not hamstrung with arbitrary limitations. We couldn’t agree more. Case in point (and to which Kirvin...
Smartphones are the top growing mobile phone category. The Apple iPhone may be at the top of the sales charts, but it has many competitors looking to take that top spot away. One of the smartphones that hoped to steal some of the iPhone thunder was the HTC Touch Pro. When the Touch Pro first launched it was a Sprint exclusive handset. Verizon Wireless has announced that it is now offering the HTC Touch Pro to its subscribers as well. The features of the handset are the same as the Sprint version with Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro as the operating...

Those guys over at coolsmartphone posted a few items of late from xda-developers.com, on having the panels from Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X1 run from a HTC Touch HD. You may or may not be already aware the X1 was designed by HTC for Sony Ericsson and almost runs the same chipset and hardware. So a feat of this nature isn’t all that ground breaking really, but is still quite nifty. Already been seen around for a while now is the footage of the HTC TouchFLO 3D UI running on the Xperia X1, which we’ve actually seen firsthand too. Now...
A news piece over at msmobiles.com has it that HTC did not design their best selling mobile phone to date, the HTC Touch Diamond. Instead a third party namely One & Co was responsible for the handsets look, with proof of this claim lying in the depths of their website in a case study to be seen here. From recent firsthand dealings with HTC there hasn’t been any reference to them at all, or even an accreditation in the overall process. The news website has it that Horace Luke from HTC was down as responsible for the design of...
Right on schedule, the HTC Touch Pro made its debut on Verizon’s website and is now available for ordering online or via telesales. The Touch Pro from Verizon is a bit pricier than its Sprint and AT&T counterparts, coming in at $349 after a $70 MIR and 2-year contract, $419 after $70 MIR and a 1-year contract or $539 for full retail. Current customers eligible for an NE2 upgrade can take $100 or $50 off those prices. Those who prefer to try before they buy will have to wait until the Touch Pro hits Verizon Stores on December 1st....
