Wednesday March 10 is Tibetan Independence Day—and this year will also mark His Holiness the Dalai Lama's 75th birthday. In honor of both, Shepard Fairey collaborated with photographer Don Farber on this limited-edition, signed and numbered 18"x14" print, which goes on sale at this link Wednesday, March 10, at noon Eastern/9am Pacific. Net proceeds divided between Tibet House and LA Friends of Tibet. (thanks, Christal / Tibet Connection Radio)

Democratic Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias is heading to the Washington D.C. Tuesday, where he will meet with White House advisor David Axelrod and celebrate Greek Independence Day.
Politico's Ben Smith reports that Giannoulias will likely chat with political aides like Axelrod and Patrick Gaspard, as "part of a running effort to convince national Democrats not to write the race off."
Also, Giannoulias probably wants to know how involved his basketball buddy President Obama will be with his campaign. Obama has kept his distance from Giannoulias since questions about his role at his family's Broadway Bank and ties to convicted felons like Tony Rezko came to light.
Giannoulias has been trying to diffuse the Broadway Bank situation in recent weeks, while admitting the bank will probably close before November.
Meanwhile, Crain's Chicago Business reports that Giannoulias and his family could make millions in tax refunds from if the bank closes.
Asteroids, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Missile Command... and now Space Invaders? Is no arcade game safe from Hollywood adaptations? Rumor has it, Warner Brothers wants to get into the neon green, slowly-charging aliens game.
The L.A. Times is reporting that Warners is trying to buy the movie rights to the classic arcade game Space Invaders. Producing the project, if all goes as planned, will be Mark Gordon, Jason Blum and Guymon Casady, who have worked on various genre projects from The Day After Tomorrow, The Relic, to Paranormal Activity.
We're not really sure what it will look like, but let's assume it's some sort of Independence Day-type action film... or this:

This week in miscellaneous eating news: A Fatty Crab tasting party, stinky cheese menus at French restaurants around the city, and today's Texas Independence Day celebration at Hill Country. Yeehaw!
I loaded a new “Smart Search” tab on my DirecTV menu yesterday and couldn’t help but notice the photo they chose for the “Best Picture Snubs” category:
Someone at DirecTV might be a little pissed that ID4 never got its day in the Oscar-sun (not even Robert Loggia got seriously overlooked . In a related story, Michelle Collins apparently designs menus for DirecTV.
Upon further examination, though I’m sure someone will comment about it regardless, I realized it’s not an actual still from Independence Day, just something that looks exactly like it — though it’s also not from Close Encounters of the Third Kind or 2001, it’s obviously not from an Alien movie, and otherwise I’m really not sure which of these movies was an actual “Best Picture Snub”.
Possibly Abbott & Costello Go To Mars? Wait, no, that won seven Oscars. Maybe there’s a scene in the Dark Knight Director’s Cut where Batman looks over and sees a drawing of a flying saucer, shakes his head, and gets back to the movie? Either way, future DirecTV Oscar-snub animosity updates will be forthcoming.
