Feel free to leave comments for this article as you see fit - your feedback is certainly welcomed! If you’d like to submit your own how-to, what-is, or top-five list, you can send it to me. No More Book Learning For You HobosSince it’s the Depression and all, get ready for skyrocketing educational costs! State governments have no munnies for their public schools, and all the private schools wasted their endowments on AIG stock, so increased tuition costs get passed along to you, the consumer! And since there are no jobs waiting for you at the end of your fancy four-year degree anyway, why bother? Soon it will cost approx. 14 kajillion dollars to get your diploma from some middling liberal arts school, so that you can send literally two-thirds of your take-home pay to your student loan consolidator while you work...

Groklaw's PJ Says SCO's Demise Greatly Exaggeratedblackbearnh writes "Last week, the net was all abuzz with speculation that SCO was finally gone and done for. With the final judgment in SCO v. Novell in, and SCO millions of dollars in the hole to Novell, it seemed like the fat lady had finally sung. But like most things in the legal system, it isn't nearly that simple. O'Reilly Media sought out Groklaw's Pamela Jones, and got a rundown of what's still alive, and why a final end to the madness may be many years away. 'Summing up, it looks bleak for SCO at the moment, but let's...

Ninth Anniversary of Amazon 1-Click Injunctiontheodp writes "Nine years ago Monday, Amazon kicked off the Holiday Season by slapping Barnes and Noble with a court injunction barring BN from using a checkout feature that Amazon said represented illegal copying of its patented 1-Click technology. 'We're pleased that Judge Pechman recognized the innovation underlying our 1-Click feature,' said Jeff Bezos in a press release. But an Appellate Court wasn't quite as impressed with Amazon's innovation. Nor were USPTO Examiners who were asked to take another look at the merits of Amazon's 1-Click patent claims. Still, 1-Click lives on, although Amazon's lawyers are currently fighting two separate...

How many political activists and militants with ties to foreign governments have access to these customer records? - Sean McBride
Should be assuming that everything you do digitally is being monitored. Everything. It's only because the Great Eye's attention is elsewhere that you are safe. - todd
I recently had the interesting experience of two Friendfeed users boasting and gloating that they had access to all my keyword searches on Friendfeed and other social media sites. One of them threatened to attack me with his Mossad-connected activist political network. So this story hits home for me. I am a believer -- these private records can be abused in outrageous and dangerous ways, and I have no doubt that they are being abused as we speak. - Sean McBride
A corollary is every attack is an attempt at social engineering :-) - todd
Social engineering the style of Stalin and Hitler -- brute intimidation. - Sean McBride
Simple brute intimidation wouldn't require hinting at secret information and blackmailing. - todd
Any manipulation of private information based on illegal access to private records is a form of brute intimidation. By the way, Friendfeed should check to see if there really is a breach in their security. - Sean McBride

Kristol: Bush should pardon torturersOne last thing: Bush should consider pardoning–and should at least be vociferously praising–everyone who served in good faith in the war on terror, but whose deeds may now be susceptible to demagogic or politically inspired prosecution by some seeking to score political points. The lawyers can work out if such general or specific preemptive pardons are possible; it may be that the best Bush can or should do is to warn publicly against any such harassment or prosecution. But the idea is this: The CIA agents who waterboarded Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and the NSA officials who listened in on phone...
