Scobleizer and our own Scott Merrill are both in Barcelona this week to see the latest from Nokia in the upcoming year. The promise, according to Scoble, is a device that will be a game changer for Nokia. Here’s what he heard: When we got here a Nokia executive met me and bragged that the Internet has no clue what they will announce this week. I asked “what about the touch screen cell phone that I’ve seen rumors about?” He said that no one had gotten it right yet. The announcements are on Wednesday morning (it’s early Monday morning...
They might not like it, but Sony looks ripe to enter the netbook market in the US. Unveiled today is the backside of this tiny "notebook PC" as described by the FCC under the model numbers PCG-1P1L and PCG-1P2L (PCG synonymous with Sony's VAIO laptop brand). We see tests for Bluetooth, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and both EVDO and HSPA data courtesy of Qualcomm's Gobi chipset. What's more, with the FCC providing the exact measurement of that label (128-mm wide), we can eyeball dimensions at just over 9.5 x 4.5-inches making this netbook even smaller than the 10.3 x 6.56-inch HP...
Okay, remember that bit about waiting for a wide release? Yeah, screw that noise. Firmware 4.7.0.75 for the BlackBerry Storm has drizzled out onto the interwebs, and initial reports from intrepid updaters seem to be generally positive. We can't verify the authenticity of this sucker, but if you were counting down the minutes until RIM got around to patching up issues and killing some lag, 75 might be a good start. Good luck, friends.[Thanks, Erik]Filed under: Cellphones, HandheldsBlackBerry Storm update leaks to the masses originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 30 Nov 2008 00:38:00 EST. There once was a time that companies could keep upcoming products under wraps until they were announced in traditional press releases and product catalogs; remember those days? Then the Internet came around and everyone lost company loyalty with spy shots and product leaks, but maybe Nikon actually went back to the ‘ol days with the Nikon D3x. The upcoming SLR has been spotted in Nikon’s own Pro magazine revealing most of the juicy details. The D3x will have a FX-format, 24.5MP sensor that will shot 5fps at full resolution or 7fps at 10MP. The basic functions of the D3 remain...
A third party company has created an authorised clamshell version of the iPhone for sale in China, whoever said clams and apples wouldn’t mix. One of the most interesting leaks of late came to us from the mobile phone news website site shanzhaij, with images that are truly amazing and we hope are for real. They’ve compared it to a crosspollination between the Motorola RAZR V8 and the iPhone; we can see where they were going with this. Obviously Apple will have nothing to say or to do with the handset and we won’t even waste our time trying to...
Mac OS X only: If you've been waiting patiently for the popular BitTorrent application, uTorrent, to find its way to your Mac, your wait is finally over: uTorrent for the Mac is officially available. We've been waiting for the Mac release for a while now, and leaks of the beta had already made their rounds on BitTorrent sites (how apropos), but the official release (Intel Macs only at the moment) of the most popular BitTorrent client is finally here. The download is still in beta, and the developers acknowledge that it "may contain serious bugs," but it still looks and...
According to CAR, this rendering shows the long-awaited production version of the Aston Martin Rapide. As expected and as indicated by multiple spy shots, the Rapide stays remarkably similar to the original concept, full-length glass roof and all. That’s a good thing, the Aston design language, as seen on the DB9, Vantage and Jaguar XK lends itself rather fetchingly to a four door shape, resulting in a much less awkward car than the Porsche Panamera and a much less confused shape than the Lamborghini Estoque. But what changes have been made? CAR says to expect a two-intake, stacked front grille,...
We've seen these Amazon "leaks" time and again. So while the December 7th date for the Vado HD might be an educated guess, the details including that $200 price tag certainly look real enough. The display still measures 2-inches, but the beefier 3.3 x 7.9 x 6.3-inch solid state camcorder now brings 8G of storage for up to 2 hours of 720p MPEG-4 recordings -- 8 hours at VGA quality. It also ships with an HDMI cable for instant playback to your like-equipped television. Otherwise, slot the cam into your PC's (XP and Vista, only) USB port to instantly...
