I want this. The only things is it's not just good enough to have it in the finals. All qualifying countries would need this (like Oceania countries). If this happened in a qualifying match and a team missed out on the finals (and the $$$ that cane with it) it's almost as bad as it happening in the finals

Which is Fifa's point. South Africa just spent billions of dollars building stadiums for the World Cup and Goal line tech would be a very small % of that. I wonder if Fifa actually has done a cost estimate. Their argument would be more credible if they came out and said "We did a cost estimate. It would cost $x per stadium to have done. We will use x number of stadiums for the next world cup. So $x will be needed". Then they can get the sponsors to pony up the cost. F1 timing was/is sponsored by Tag Heuer, for example.

Roberto, that's a good point - I'd hope that several of the football-ad-buying companies would want to help out with the cost of implementing something. That would at least offset the cost concerns. I fear the larger problem is fear that the tech will change the game in some essential fashion.
