Coming soon to a couch near you: laziness. TiVo and Domino's announced today that they're launching a service that allows you to order a pizza from your TV set-top box. Those who already have a Domino's account don't have to enter their address or name -- they just push a few buttons and wait for the pizza to arrive (they will have to get up off the couch to pay the delivery person, though). It's the latest in an onslaught of services that allow people to buy things from their TVs. In the next few years, we'll be able...
Not all geocoding news is for the paranoid, some examples of geocoding software are just plain great — like Jeffrey Friedl’s new plugin to add geodata in Adobe’s Lightroom photo management software. Friedl, who also makes the Flickr Export tool and a dozen or so other Lightroom plugins, recently announced a new GPS-Support Plugin for Lightroom. The plugin is technically a beta, so there may be some issues, but in my testing everything went seemed to work just fine. Once you’ve downloaded and installed the plugin, you’ll have a new menu option to geoencode your images (File >> Plugin Extras...

I would love to tell you this morning that the record breaking Iron Man Blu-ray release on October 1 was all puppies and rainbows, but that just isn't the case. And I can't lie to you, dear readers, at least not about Iron Man. The truth is, while the release made director John Favreau a happy man, it's done nothing but piss off consumers, thanks to huge BD-Live-related traffic jams the popular release created on Paramount's servers. Tony Stark, thy newest enemy and threat to the free world is BD-Live! More seriously, the rush to download Iron Man BD-Live content...
Looks like its Update Day at Apple—the company just released Apple TV 2.2, which users can access through the “update software” menu option in Settings. The software revamp now includes support for features introduced in iTunes 8.0, including video playlists, Genius playlists and HDTV show purchasing, and plugs a couple of security holes as well. How's it playing, kids? Any problems? [Macrumors]...

The Gadget: The Squeezebox Boom from Logitech streams music from your PC or the internet via an 802.11b/g or Ethernet connection. Unlike previous Squeezeboxes, the Boom also throws in a pair of 30-watt speakers. The Price: $300 The Verdict: This is one awesome little Wi-Fi radio. It is super-compact, versatile, set-up was nearly effortless and it sounds great. The device can handle just about any non-DRM format including MP3, FLAC, WMA, WMA Lossless, AAC, Apple Lossless, WAV, and AIFF and it accessed music seamlessly from my iTunes account thanks to the SqueezeCenter software (works with Windows, Mac and Linux). The...
Microsoft Office Labs has launched a new product called E-mail Prioritizer that will not only sort through your in box to figure out what's important, but also give you an honest-to-goodness pause button in case you want to escape an Exchange server e-mail avalanche. The official Olympic channel at YouTube has been blocked at some countries due to some reasons, and does not allow users to watch Olympics coverage there. A commenter, Stephen Sclafani, over at Valleywag has found a small hack by which everyone can access YouTube’s Beijing 2008 channel. All you have to do is replace a cookie that YouTube servers store in your browser and then you will be able to access all the clips at YouTube. 1. Open YouTube.com in your browser. 2. After the site loads, find the option in your browser for editing cookies. Here’s the instructions for...
Commenter Stephen Sclafani figured out that replacing one cookie which YouTube's servers stuff into your browser will get you through to the site's U.S.-blocked beijing2008 channel. I'm watching Argentina vs. Cote D'Ivoire right now. Here are Stephen's instructions, slightly edited (I used to write documentation): 1. Open YouTube.com in your browser. 2. After the site loads, find the option in your browser for editing cookies. Here's the instructions for Firefox 3.0: Click the Preferences menu option On the Preferences pane that appears, click the Privacy Tab. In the Privacy panel, Click on Show Cookies... In the Cookies panel that appears,...
Recently, over on the OStatic blog, I covered Sleipnir, which is a popular browser in Japan, but few people outside of that country use it. It has one primary claim to fame–an unusual one–which is that it allows you to switch between the Gecko rendering engine using by the Mozilla Firefox browser and Internet Explorer’s rendering engine. This means that if you run into a rendering problem in Firefox, for example, you can take another look using IE’s rendering engine (this is for Windows users). The folks on Download Squad originally alerted me to Sleipnir here, and they also make...
Filed under: Fast Food, Vegetarian/VeganI've learned over the years that one of the vital rules when cooking for both meat-eaters and vegetarians is that you have to do everything you can not to contaminate your vegetarian cooking vessels and tools with anything meaty. I first awoke to this mandate when I found myself in charge of grilling for both camps of eaters at various potlucks and picnics. I would bring two sets of spatulas and tongs, so as to ensure that I didn't render food inedible for vegetarians. However, it seems that KFC in Canada has not learned that same...
Hidden by the wave of iPhone related news, Apple has released an update to its Apple TV. The two major changes are support for MobileMe, the dotMac replacement, and support for the iPhone 3G remote application. It was with the latter that I discovered the update, as I tried in vain to find the menu option on the earlier software. Also included in the release is a range of security upgrades. The iPhone remote application is worth the upgrade alone. Gone is the need to use Apple’s minimalist remote control, and replacing it is a full color touch sensitive remote...
