Daily Deal: Soyo Freestyler Wireless Headphones The Soyo FreeStyler HS11 wireless headphones are dope pretty much any way you slice it. The first and most important bit is that I would describe the aesthetic as “presidential,” “fresh and clean,” or “straight G’d out.” They are wireless from 80-300(though we reported closer to 80-100) and work with the iPhone 3G. The HS11s are also compatible with Bluetooth capable cell phones and laptops. The Soyo Freestyler HS11s come with 5-6 hours of battery life, a built in microphone, and are Skype friendly. It’s a relief to know that I can now avoid the annoyance of shoving my...

Lips patch brings microphone compatibility to Rock Band Our super sophisticated estimation process has it that a whole 2.89 of ya even care that Microsoft's Lips microphone won't work with Rock Band or Guitar Hero, but we're about to make just south of three Earthlings a lot happier. Harmonix and MTV Games have been working with Microsoft to provide compatibility (via a patch) with Rock Band 2, though there's no definite date to latch on to. Alright Activision, the bar has been set -- you up to the challenge?[Via Xbox 360 Fanboy]Filed under: Gaming, PeripheralsLips patch brings microphone compatibility to Rock Band originally appeared on Engadget on...

Things to Remember When Calling Tech SupportThis is Gord’s submission for the HP Magic Giveaway. Feel free to leave comments for this article as you see fit - your feedback is certainly welcomed! If you’d like to submit your own how-to, what-is, or top-five list, you can send it to me. Views and opinions of this writer are not necessarily my own: Have you ever worked in Tech Support? I have for the past 7 years. Now, I know that the highest suicide rate for a profession is air traffic controllers. I’m not so sure they took into account those of us who work the trenches...

iHome iP47 iPhone Bluetooth Speakerphone Lightning Review [Review]The Gadget: iHome's iP47 speakerphone has an unbelievable amount of integrated functions, like A2DP stereo Bluetooth connectivity, iPhone/iPod docking, GSM interference shielding, iPod alarm clock playback, AM/FM radio and on-board dialing direct from the unit. And, it has a remote control. It's one of the only iPhone speakerphone units out there now. The Price: $199 The Verdict: Good, but not fantastic—and a bit pricey. For all the functions it has, each one has a small flaw that prevents the whole from being spectacular. The main point of the iP47 is the speakerphone functionality, which connects to your iPhone via Bluetooth...

Ocarina: the First iPhone InstrumentOcarina is one of the most inventive iphone apps we’ve seen yet. Its makers claim it’s the “first true musical instrument created for the iPhone. Ocarina is sensitive to your breath, touch and movements, making it even more versatile than the original [instrument]. Unlike other musical applications, there are no pre-compiled riffs so musicians will find unlimited opportunities for self-expression. Advanced options allow you to choose between diatonic, minor and harmonic scales.” The genius thing is how it utilizes all the unique features of the iphone: Multi-touch, the integrated microphone, even using the internal gyroscope to control vibrato rate and...

Dr. Dre and Monster Put $150 In Your Ear With Beats Tour Headphones [Dr. Dre Beats]Dr. Dre and Monster just dropped the in-ear version of their Beats headphones, which cost $150 and are tangle free. Now they're waiting for you to pick it up. The most notable feature in its checklist of features is the tangle free cable design, which looks to us like a sort of flat-cable. Other cool details are the gold contacts, the heavier low-end (same as its larger brother) and a "sound-isolating eartip". The spec page doesn't list anything about an on-board Microphone, like the earlier version, so we're not sure if you can take calls on this. We'd guess not....

QPAD rolls out new high-end gaming headset QPAD may be best known for its gamer-minded mousepads, but it looks like it's now branching out in the peripheral business with a little help from beyerdynamic, which has helped it put together its first gaming headset. From the looks of it, they certainly seem to be off to a decent enough start, with the headset boasting a frequency response of 5Hz to 30KH, ambient noise attenuation to around 18 dBA, a noise-canceling microphone, and a USB converter with volume control and a mic mute button. The ear and headband pads are also replaceable, but it looks like you...

Just where the heck are Apple's premium in-ear headphones? At a certain point, a pair of opalescent iPod buds roping out from your pocket and inserted into your ears had a certain hipster cache, largely thanks to Apple's own silhouette iPod ads. I always thought this a rather interesting phenomenon, because I never particularly thought people using the stock iPod ear buds were particularly cool: rather, they seem to appeal mostly to tone deaf idiot masochists. iPod ear buds suck: as comfortable as hardened gum rolled in glass and plunged into the ear canal, and just as acoustically satisfying. Ever since the "Let's Rock" event in September, Steve...

Apple now shipping in-ear heaphonesCan you believe that Apple announced its near-audiophile grade in-ear headphones way back on September 9th, 2008 and they are just now shipping to customers? Crazy. A refresher is probably appropriate since they were announced nearly three months ago. Each earpiece sports two drivers to better handle the highs and lows. They come with three soft, silcone ear tips for a perfect fit and has iPod/iPhone controls with an integrated remote and microphone. The $79 price might seem a bit high, but hopefully reviews will show that it’s well justified. Apple via Giz...

Petite Power! Obama Vertically-Challenges His Cabinet Picks (SLIDESHOW) — Fun fact: if elected, John McCain, at 5'7", would have been the shortest president to hold office in over one hundred years (President William McKinley stood at the same height in 1897). But we all know how that turned out. And so the struggle for petite empowerment continues: at Monday morning's press conference, four of Barack Obama's six cabinet picks could barely clear the microphone. Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice, Janet Napolitano, and Robert Gates certainly have their work cut out for them in office, but first they should fight for a step stool. Why should the 6'1" President-elect have all...

Memorex SingStand iPod karaoke mic critiqued and in the wild Sadly (very, very sadly, in fact), this isn't the first device we've seen that poorly attempts to mix your iPod into a karaoke-type device, which probably means you'll be glancing right over it. Memorex's recently released SingStand MKS-SS1 Microphone and Speaker System was apprehended and photographed by the iPod fanatics at iLounge, and while the powered speaker base, auxiliary input for an additional microphone / instrument and the audio controls were swell, the lackluster iPod integration sort of left the critic wondering why Cupertino's darling was even associated. And seriously, are you really considering spending $70 on this with...
