O2 from December 1st have enabled mobile connectivity on the underground tube system in Glasgow, Scotland. That’s right, you can’t even hide on the tube anymore. Anyone, anywhere can now find you and see if you’re unhappy with your long distance calls or whether Scania can come and fit a chair lift for you – despite the fact you live in a bungalow. Marking this auspicious occasion, eight O2 ‘Angels’ are wandering around Glasgow giving away 2000 tickets for the tube system. This presumably is for people to really try and test out this new addition to their portfolio,...
The FCC released detail on a patent that Apple filed regarding a secondary backlight. The backlight would show status updates such as new email, text message or missed calls without having to turn the primary backlight on, thus saving battery. It looks highly likely that we will see this in the next version of the iPhone. Telia is the latest to report that they will bring MMS to iPhone users. Many other countries are getting MMS on the iPhone which begs the question, when is the US going to get a piece of the action? Scandinavian iPhone owners will be...
Filed under: Handsets, Messaging, Multimedia, Software, Apple We've heard a few things about the Mobispine MMS app supposedly being developed for the iPhone, but the company's just answered a lot of questions, and we thought we'd give you a quick rundown. Interestingly, the app will utilize Apple's announced but delayed push notification, which Mobispine says is due "pretty soon," though carriers may use SMS notification in lieu of the service. The company says that the app will be carrier-branded, and that it will be up to them how much to charge you, the MMS-starved consumer. Mobispine says that the software...

Apple (AAPL) rolled out iPhone 2.2 early this morning, as expected. And, as expected, it boasts enhancements to the device’s Maps application, improvements to its telephone functionality, better security and support for over-the-air podcast updates, as well as a few other interesting additions. Among them, an app-scoring feature that allows users to rate applications purchased from the the App Store before deleting them, slide shows of App Store application screenshots, “return to home screen” functionality, and an off-switch for auto-correction. Notably absent from this latest firmware update, landscape SMS, MMS support and, of course, cut-and-paste–whose continued absence Apple apparently views...
Apple released the latest update for the iPhone and iPod Touch overnight. The 2.2 update includes a number of new features and of course some fixes as well. It also still leaves a lot of common mobile phone features out in the cold. You probably wont be seeing us for a few days...
Carriers will be able to add their own branded MMS applications using MobiSpine's software.(Credit: MobiSpine) Wednesday's report that a Swedish wireless company was planning to add an MMS application to the iPhone now makes a little more sense. That's because MobiSpine, another Swedish company, announced ......
With the new iPhone firmware 2.2 release we expect a lot of changes to be made, one thing Apple will not be giving us is the ability to send MMS. Mobispine has set out to give the iPhone the “world’s first true Multimedia Messaging for iPhone.” We already know there are third party “hacks” out there like Swirly MMS that kind of provide a fix for some. All of these methods require the users to jailbreak their handset in order for it to even work. Mobispine believes that the ability to send and receive MMS from any iPhone will give...
Filed under: Handsets, Messaging, Apple We heard yesterday that Telia customers might be getting an MMS app for their iPhones, and that it was being developed by the carrier themselves, with plans to launch in the next two months. Well, today we've gotten word that Mobispine is likely the developer of said application, and that they have plans to offer it to carriers all over planet Earth. Mobispine says that the app will be branded to each particular operator, and distributed via Apple's App Store, but we don't know when all of this is going to go down. Now we'd...
