It used to be that if a user posted a link on FriendFeed, they would get a few comments and likes and that would be it. If someone reposted that link, it would have its own set of comments for the user who reposted it. If that was a popular link, there could be 10 reposts and 10 sets of comments. Then Moopz came along. Moopz is a site that aggregates comments about the same link, and puts them into one place. The front page displays recent active FriendFeed posts and conversations. Instead of just showing the conversation that occurs...

@moopz - can you please merge/summarize the Likes like Friendfeed by default? I very much like the conversation merging but listing all the likes is noisy. Thanks. - Jauder Ho
From the post: Moopz is a site that aggregates comments about the same link, and puts them into one place. The front page displays recent active FriendFeed posts and conversations. Instead of just showing the conversation that occurs on that posted link, it gathers and threads all of the the subsequent activity from FriendFeed. I’ve provided a before-and-after example with a recent active TechCrunch post. - Orli Yakuel

@Jauder, yes I was thinking about changing the default view for likes, such that the likes would be summarized by default, rather than interspersed with comments. Thanks for the suggestion. Note for those who may not know, there is currently a "display options" link in the top right that you can use to change some of the display settings, including displaying Likes as comments. - Moopz

Delver Launches Social SearchInformation overload is a topic that keeps coming up, especially among users of social media services. As you add more friends and more services, the amount of content produced can become overwhelming to keep up with which leads to quality items being lost amongst the "noise." Noise-reducing apps like AideRSS or Moopz (both of which we love) highlight the best content, but their one drawback is that they determine relevance based on what the community thinks - and that may or may not be what you find interesting or important. With the new social search service from Delver, however, you...

It's time to review the week that was on ReadWriteWeb. It was a very busy week on the product side, and not surprisingly it was dominated by the release of Apple's 3G iPhone and the accompanying App Store. Also this week Google launched a virtual world, Yahoo opened up its index and search engine to outside developers, and there was a (unconfirmed) rumor that Twitter had bought Summize. On the trends side: we analyzed the problem of spam in social networks, and investigated why 'old school' bloggers dominate in new apps like FriendFeed and Twitter. Web Products iPhone 3G Released...

Moopz.com - Reduce Noisy FriendFeeds — What it doesIf you subscribe to FriendFeed but occasionally find the amount of information you’re being bombarded with borderline overwhelming, you may want to check out a new service, Moopz, which aims to reduce the “noise level” of FriendFeed. Moopz works by aggregating FriendFeed conversations and grouping them into relevant categories, and only features conversations which include links to the same “interesting story”. In this way, Moopz claims that it weeds out pointless and irrelevant chatter that doesn’t directly link to a site. Additionally, Moopz tries to pull the most information possible from each story to compile a preview of...

Get A Less Noisy FriendFeed With MoopzMoopz is a new web service created by the fabulous Mark Carey, the same developer responsible for RWW's innovative FriendFeed/comment integration. With Moopz, Carey brings us a conversation-tracking interface for FriendFeed that lets you keep tabs on what's hot, what's recent, as well as what's quiet (dare we saying "upcoming?"). The interface is very similar to FriendFeed - you can interact with the stories by liking and commenting, but the big difference between the two services is that Moopz helps organize and categorize the FriendFeed noise into an easy-to-read flow of news. What's Moopz? On Moopz, the social media flow...

@João, yes the the name comes from that Seinfeld episode. That said, apart from being a place for lively discussion and debate, Moopz has little to do with the Bubble Boy episode. One of my first web sites was a Seinfeld fan site (http://www.stanthecaddy.com) and a few years ago I thought that moops.com would be a cool, generic, short domain name. It wasn't available, but moopz.com was. Just getting around to using now ;) - Mark Carey
Marcos, what browser/OS are you running? Any javascript errors? - Mark Carey
Louis missed ??? :) - Charlie Anzman
A fair point, Ken. But I think that will change with time. Moopz launched by following a small subset of "a-list" users that generate a lot of conversation. But Moopz will now follow any FF user that logs in via Moopz, which should change the dynamics going forward. Note that the "highlight the actual blog" thing is demonstrated mostly on the Popular page at http://moopz.com/hot -- that layout/view could be expanded to other areas of the site as well, if that makes sense.... - Mark Carey
@Aaron, under "display options" you can choose to hide those "likes" lines. That said, I will probably add a "likes summary" element that can shown as an alternative to the interspersed layout.... - Mark Carey
Noted. I saw the "follow" from Moopz, and guessed at something like that. It's self-selecting, but still dynamic. I'll have to check out the "/hot" link...that "highlight the actual blog" thing has a lot going for it. - Ken Kennedy
And I will indeed keep checking it out. Thanks for commenting, Mark! - Ken Kennedy

About MoopzMoopz is a new service that brings together conversations about web articles, blog entries, and other web links.  Moopz takes items and comments from FriendFeed and presents them in different ways:Moopz aggregates FriendFeed conversations that are discussing the same link. For example, three different people may share the same link to an interesting story.  Seperate conversations may then arise on each of those items on FriendFeed.  Moopz pulls those conversation (and "Likes") and presents them in a single combined thread.Moopz reduces duplicates.  A web link may appear in multiple items on FriendFeed.  One person may share the link by boomarking...

One bug I've found: When you type a comment in to the Moopz interface and hit enter, it goes to the next line instead of activating the 'post' button. Confusing. - J. Phil
@atzmon, Moopz tracks specific users and only certain services (the users are the ones that the "Moopz" FF user has subscribed to. The list started with a small list of top conversation starters, but Moopz will subscribe to everyone who logs in via Moopz. To be honest, I am not sure how this approach will work out, but I am intrigued to find out. ;) - Moopz
@J. Phil, thanks for the bug report. I will look into that. I should also try to setup the handy expandy-textarea feature of FF where the comment box gets bigger if your comment is longer than one line... - Moopz

Are you planning to add search features? And can you tell a little bit about the person or people behind moopz? - atzmon

okay, search box is up and running now... - Mark Carey

Moopz or Mark - I like Moopz. I have tried them all now. I would want a tab that had all the features of Moopz but only looked at my subscriptions. Great work! - Russellreno
BTW I tried search early this morning and it worked well as I recall. The tag cloud is a good addition, but I just proves once again that these sites are 1st tech sites. Instead of the My Friends tab you could do a Food, Music, Celebrity, Politics, Sports tab as an interim step. - Russellreno
Nice one...I always thought that friendfeed had its own inhouse fragmented conversations...can't wait till you make a personalised version, unless FF beat you to it...and conversations by topic make this the new technorati tags (well a machine tag version) - John Tropea

Moopz augments each item with summaries. - Mitchell Tsai
Some items on FriendFeed are very short and don't provide much information about the link ("check out this link http:/nourl.to/dfg"). Moopz tries to augment items by displaying a short summary and image (if available) to provide more information. - Mitchell Tsai
Moopz provides a "Popular" list of items most active in the past 24 hours. - Mitchell Tsai
looks interesting - not personalized but seems to work well around themes of conversations - works off remote key & anything you do there appears back in ff proper - very nice :) - mike "glemak" dunn
I'm still playing with it. Like some features, but the interfaces feels different - like doing the NoiseRiver thing... One thread appeared to be abbreviated (or not quite updated) - the Scoble VC thread from yesterday. But these are just early thoughts. - Mitchell Tsai
agreed on abbreviated - thought it might just be a lag effect based of api velocity - i subscribed to the rss feed in nnw so i can see how it does on iphone - see if popular stuff that i might miss in the normal flow of ff (which i like) bubble up better - noiseriver hasn't been useful for me but i know a lot of folks like it... - mike "glemak" dunn
FriendFeed + Moopz = very, very handy. Thanks, Mr. Tsai - Dave Lovely
I like the kind-of-random hot stories of the day (like Pixdaus.com's rand). Maybe a different mix than FF's built-in best-of? Haven't looked much yet. I'll be waiting to hear what your experience is like when I wake up in the afternoon. :-) G'night mike. - Mitchell Tsai
You're welcome Dave. See this old July 18 thread from Mike Arrington about Moopz http://friendfeed.com/e/92c51934-0fc8-6eee-940f-a0428eeb505a "Moopz comes from developer Mark Carey, the creator of the FriendFeed MovableType plug-in, a bi-directional comment plug-in for FriendFeed and MovableType comments. Moopz is actually powered through MovableType, and largely by that plug-in." - Mitchell Tsai
ok one more cool thing (then i'll stop hijacking your thread mitchell) if you cut & paste a ff title and do a search for it in moopz it'll find the other offshoots - really useful for multiple rss shared items - worked perfectly as far as i can tell - mike "glemak" dunn
Don't worry about hijacking the thread. Most of my conversations are on my Del.icio.us and picture posts, since I don't blog much. FF's cool in that every single post (Blog/Twitter/YouTube/GoogleReader) can become it's own chat room. It's good to hear your tips! - Mitchell Tsai
If they make it personalised, ie your feed with combined articles, that would be excellent - Kol Tregaskes
Much cleaner interface than techmeme. - Tabrez Iqbal
