Mobispine's iPhone MMS application... for the entire universe? We heard yesterday that Telia customers might be getting an MMS app for their iPhones, and that it was being developed by the carrier themselves, with plans to launch in the next two months. Well, today we've gotten word that Mobispine is likely the developer of said application, and that they have plans to offer it to carriers all over planet Earth. Mobispine says that the app will be branded to each particular operator, and distributed via Apple's App Store, but we don't know when all of this is going to go down. Now we'd just like to meet...

It’s not easy being a wrestler. Inside the ring your pounding an opponent’s head against the corner post, but outside the ring it’s hard to meet people. Nobody really wants to be your friend. Not even on MySpace. They say their your friends, but they are not really your friends. Wrestlers aren’t stupid. They know everybody thinks they are just a bunch of clowns. That’s why the company that employs all the wrestlers you see on TV, World Wrestling Entertainment, created WWE Universe, a social network just for them and their fans. Okay, it’s not really a social network....

Right? It's just oozing and dripping with fail. Sorry, Vince McMahon. - Derrick

Obscure references herein: WWE launches its own social network called WWE Universe I wake up every morning thinking, “Man, what I could really use is a social network where I could discuss the societal ramifications of the Kai En Tai-Val Venis castration angle of 1998, or join ‘The Kliq was the best unofficial stable ever’ fan group.” It seems my wishes have been granted. World Wrestling Entertainment has launched its own social network called WWE Universe, which has been cooking since April. So far, the site has 200,000 members, most of which are men in the 18-35 age bracket. While the site is primarily what you’d expect from a “social network...

Melvin Sokolsky Melvin Sokolsky was born and raised in Manhattan’s Lower East Side during the lean years of the prewar era. Here he witnessed the entire spectrum of the human condition played out across a tough and tight-knit community. This experience was countered by a universe of visual riches found in the museums and books he regularly devoured. Melvin spent his days framing and logging precise mental and emotional images long before he had a camera to capture them. At age ten he began taking pictures using a box camera, though he was frustrated by his inability to create prints that...

In a just and sane universe, we would have known the identity of the final Cylon on Battlestar Galactica a long time ago. The Sci Fi Channel chose to break the show's fourth season in half, putting a nine-month gap in the middle of the chain of episodes that reveal the remaining hidden toaster. The good news is, the show took a break right as it was about to unveil that secret, and the clues are all in place. Here's our run-down of all the last-Cylon clues we've gotten so far. This is the first part of our look at...

Apple Apples Are Not from Apple [Apple]Risking a spacetime paradox that could destroy the entire Universe, a Japanese guy has devised a way to naturally grow Fuji apples with the Apple logo on them. His technique is very simple: Apply an Apple sticker (or iPod or Appleish Heart) a month before harvesting. I knew girls who apply stickers while tanning to get temporal sun tattoos, but I never heard of this technique to do the same thing with fruits. As much as I like Apple and apples, though, I prefer them on suntanning girls. [Nobon via Cult of Mac]...

New York improv comedian and writer DC Pierson ... [Book Deals]New York improv comedian and writer DC Pierson just sold a novel that's being billed as "Superbad meets E.T." The Boy Who Couldn't Sleep And Didn't Have To, forthcoming from Broadway, is about two outcast teens who bond over their love of comic books and science fiction. One of them never sleeps, and instead just "recharges his brain with protracted spasms, which may or may not commingle with the universe to bring both their scifi fantasies to life." [Publishers Marketplace]...

Science's Alternative To an Intelligent CreatorHugh Pickens writes "Discover magazine has an interesting article on the multiverse theory — a synthesis of string theory and the anthropic principle that explains why our universe seems perfectly tailored for life without invoking an intelligent creator. Our universe may be but one of perhaps infinitely many universes in an inconceivably vast multiverse. While most of those universes are barren, some, like ours, have conditions suitable for life. The idea that the universe was made just for us — known as the anthropic principle — debuted in 1973 when Brandon Carter proposed that a purely random assortment of laws...

Is The Multiverse Real?Discover has an article on the theory that our "universe may be but one of perhaps infinitely many universes in an inconceivably vast multi verse." A graf:Supporters of the multiverse theory say that critics are on the wrong side of history. “Throughout the history of science, the universe has always gotten bigger,” Carr says. “We've gone from geocentric to heliocentric to galactocentric. Then in the 1920s there was this huge shift when we realized that our galaxy wasn't the universe. I just see this as one more step in the progression. Every time this expansion has occurred, the more conservative...

The handsets of GITEX 2008: HTC, SE and TechFaithFiled under: Handsets, HTC, Sony Ericsson, Windows Mobile, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA Given that Dubai pretty much has it out for every other spectacle in the entire universe, it's no shock to see the mecca pick up a major consumer electronics trade show of its own. This year's GITEX 2008 has come and gone, but there are still images left to remind us of the show that was. PocketPCDubai was fortunate enough to tour the show floor with a camera in hand, and while the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 wasn't a shocker, there were quite a few intriguing WinMo handsets in...

Thor is going animatedFiled under: Programming, Pickups and Renewals, Reality-FreeAfter the Thor movie is released in 2010, Marvel will be doing a follow-up by releasing an animated Thor series on television. The series doesn't yet have a channel where it will be broadcast, but given the big Marvel hoopla nowadays, it probably won't be a problem to find one.Granted, Thor isn't one of Marvel's top tier, like Spider-Man or the X-Men, but he's easily in the second tier. Given Marvel's current strategy of a shared universe of movies leading to The Avengers movie, the character will only get more popular over time.To me,...
